RCSI Hospitals Group was established in 2015 and comprises the following hospitals:

  • Connolly Hospital, Dublin
  • Cavan and Monaghan Hospital
  • Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, Co. Louth

  • Rotunda Hospital, Dublin
The Academic Partner for the Group is the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI).

The RCSI Hospitals Group serves populations in five counties – North Dublin, Meath, Louth, Cavan and Monaghan. A wide range of emergency, diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation services are provided across these, supported by a workforce of approximately 8,353 WTE staff. Our aim is to provide high quality and safe care underpinned by the development of a single effective corporate and clinical governance structure.

Connolly Hospital is part of the RCSI Hospitals Group which covers a population of over 800,000. Connolly Hospital is a major teaching hospital providing a range of acute medical and surgical services, day care, outpatient, diagnostic and support services to a catchment population of 331,000. Emergency services are provided on a 365-day, 24 hour basis. Multi-disciplinary teams representative of medical, nursing, health and social care professionals, management and general support staff play a pivotal role in the development, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of these services


National Orthopaedic Hospital Cappagh provides a national orthopaedic service for the treatment of lower and upper limb and spinal surgery. They are the national patient referral centre for primary bone and soft tissue tumours, the dedicated centre for elective paediatric orthopaedics under CHI, the dedicated orthopaedic oncology surgical centre for the national sarcoma service and home to the national bone bank. They also offer rheumatology, sports & exercise medicine and rehabilitation.

Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon

This is an appointment to the RCSI Hospitals Group on a Type B basis under the Consultant’ Contract 2008 by Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown (28 hours per week) and National Orthopaedic Hospital Cappagh (11 hours per week).

Applicants must be registered in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners as maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland in the specialty of trauma & orthopaedic surgery.
