Driven by numbers and too little pay
Product builder (Current Employee) - Clonmel, County Tipperary - 6 January 2023
The work itself is grand but target driven. They only care about numbers. You can’t be ever sick or your punished for it with verbal warnings and written warnings. If your sick a day you lose out on pay rise at the start of the year. They recently took away overtime which was what helped my pay. Some people are more willing to work than others. They really need to look at pay as other companies are paying more. They don’t care about their employees financial difficulties with everything going up. No pay rise and no overtime is just unfair. Christmas bonus was only 100 euros voucher when the company next door got pay rise and 300 euros voucher and their excuse is they get no bonus but they do every 3 months ! Unfairly treated employees put under stress to earn little money. They could at least make overtime available to whoever wanted to do some !!!
Pros
None at the moment except bonus that your taxed too much on
Cons
Too little pay

Awful place to work
Operator (Current Employee) - Clonmel, County Tipperary - 27 October 2022
If you're considering working for Abbott in Clonmel I'll let you in on what it's like in there. They will train you on one station and if you don't suit it then it's your fault, they have unrealistic targets which change depending on seemingly nothing, if you hit the incentive target management will increase it just so you don't get incentive. If you ask to go home sick they will look at you like you just killed their dog. This is the only Abbott site in Ireland without a union so good luck finding workers rights in this place. The hours and shift pattern turn you into nothing but a husk that they farm work out of. I have genuinely never felt so disgusted with how workers are treated. I watched an operator collapse to which a supervisor and a FIRST-AIDER began trying to pull them.back up to their feet by their arms to put them back to work. Avoid this place if you value your sanity, health and your happiness

Overworked and underpaid
Factory Worker (Current Employee) - Clonmel, County Tipperary - 8 October 2022
They say they are family oriented but truth is they want you to be flexible for them jump to their tune but if you need flexibility for whatever reason they make excuses, they tell you to work hard and you will be promoted but sadly its not about how hard you work its all about sick days and just 1 sick period will cost you your pay rise , even if you saved them millions and missed a day cos your child is sick you will be punished , warnings depending on length you are off , even give warnings when family member dies , pension vhi and a few other Benefits are what people stay for but most hope there will be redundancy so they can leave , people leaving faster than they can hire
Pros
Health insurance, pension
Cons
Horrible work environment, no flexibility, your only a no.

Productive workplace
Specialist quality assurance (Current Employee) - Longford, County Longford - 22 September 2022
Working here 15 years and love it. Everybody is helpful and informative..training is good and ongoing. Progression is available for everyone but you have to work for it. All employees are treated fairly. Flexi time and leaves are there to use , handy for family life.
Pros
Flexi hours, nice helpful people.
Cons
Slow to progress

Fast paced environment with constant learning
Engineering Intern (Current Employee) - Sligo, County Sligo - 15 August 2022
Overall an enjoyable and rewarding place to work. Management are approachable and take on board your experience level. Other staff members are very supportive and always help and give guidance. Small site so very little chance for any progression if you're young and new out of third level education.

Great place to work, wish I could go back!
Microbiologist (Former Employee) - Donegal, County Donegal - 2 August 2022
Left my position in Abbott due to relocating. Loved working here, great culture, very inclusive, friendly and well resourced. Huge amount of investment in the site, always had the best of the best in terms of equipment, software, teams were properly resourced in terms of headcount.
Pros
Resources and work/life balance
Cons
None

Great starting point, difficult to progress
Diagnostic Technologist (Current Employee) - Longford, County Longford - 21 July 2022
For a just out of university young person it is a great starting point for manufacturing however with high turnover, relient people get saddled with so much extra work with almost no relief, recognition, or hope that someone competent will fill the role. Trainers are expected to train & oversee on top of their own work with no extra pay. They are also pressured to sign people off before they may be ready. This leads to mistakes being made instead of prevented. When complex problems occur it's felt that we are not respected as workers. Our input barely matters and usually the blame is put on us. Pay is fine for Longford for the moment but is not keeping up with industry or inflation. At the end of the day it's a business and it's a numbers game. If you have a get in-get out mentality it's fine. Leave your hopes for making an impact and pride in your work at the door though.

Jobs at Abbott
Avoid!!
Assembly Operator (Current Employee) - Clonmel, County Tipperary - 28 June 2022
Management is broken beyond belief say one thing does another, training consistents of trainers who work the floor giving you the answers just to tick boxes not for any training. High targets and no help getting upto speed. High turnover rate of employees who are lining up to leave both old and new employees. Money is good but not worth the shift pattern and disgusting treatment of workers by management. Union is needed or there won’t be anyone left in clonmel to work for Abbott for its reputation. They have billboards all over the region. AVOID like the plague

Fast paced and exciting place to work
Production Manager (Former Employee) - Clonmel, County Tipperary - 7 June 2022
Abbott Clonmel was a very fast paced environment, with world class technology and systems. The knowledge gained working in such a leading edge company was invaluable in helping me climb the carrier ladder in other companies.

Toxic
Diagnostic Technologist (Current Employee) - Longford Town, County Longford - 31 May 2022
Extremely toxic workplace overall. Some people are nice, the majority play at office politics too much right down to the simple technician roles. Very bad for gossip, don’t make you feel very included. Management might not as well exist. Management gives tasks without explanation and give out when the employee does not understand their task. If an employee performs very well, the management takes full credit for the performance and the employee’s is attributed to the team, I.e. the guidance of management. Management is also very headstrong, will always put the blame of the employee and never listen to employees. Management also provides no training in their teams, and are always busy with meetings. Training, as mentioned is not provided. Employees are expected to read over 300 SOPs in a single month and sign off on them and fully understand them having never set foot in a lab. When new employees approach management for help, management tells the employee that they are expected to fully understand everything and if they have questions to know where to find answers in SOPs even though the employee does not understand the SOPs. The pay is abysmal, not competitive with any other pharma giant with management doing everything it can to ensure that employees receive as little a raise as possible. Work life balance does not exist. Employees are swamped with tasks every day and do not have a life outside of work.

Stressful environment, management putting unnecessary pressure
Assembly operator VC (Current Employee) - Clonmel, County Tipperary - 4 May 2022
Down on people like a ton of bricks for being sick/not hitting high numbers, but can't see why they're messing up and losing long term staff. No bit of gratitude for working through pandemic, or for going along with 9.5 hour shifts and being shattered with kids for the weekend. So many long term ops have left this year alone, and new hires walking out due to pressure of being up to speed as soon as they sign off.
Pros
pay day and weekends off
Cons
long hours, way too high targets, un empathetic management
