It was a good place to work.
Store Assistant (Former Employee) - Wexford Town, County Wexford - 8 August 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedI really enjoyed working in Aldi. The only two things I didn't like was getting paid monthly and being put on the first till from a 2 to 10 shift. Other than that I felt it was a great place to work. Always kept going and it was good work. A bit of heavy lifting but not too bad.
Pros
End of year bonus
Cons
Paid monthly

It's hard work, but amazing team and management
Store Assistant (Former Employee) - Rathnew, County Wicklow - 26 July 2022
Yes it was hard like any job, but the team were great . Management was very understanding and helpful. Even when my son born we got plenty of baby presents but it's not even that, mostly that they cared about us and its well worth it. It was like a great workout and your body will get used to it :) I would recommend it a lot, great experience and I never regret it. Jan the store manager always looked after us.
Pros
Paid break, good salary
Cons
Morning shift are not easy

Everyone is involved in the running of the store, even managers. Your day flys by and they care about the welfare of their staff. Recommend working here.

Awful
Store assistant (Former Employee) - Mayo - 9 May 2022
Management are awful. No support for staff. Don't care about employees just getting the work done. Low staff levels for high amount of work. Unacceptable expectations at times.

Hard, stressful
Store Assistant (Former Employee) - Sligo Town, County Sligo - 9 May 2022
Could be early starts, management are on you straight away about targets and if you do not reach them you will be let know, shifts vary in time, very hard. Could get a call asking you to work with in the next hour and make it very difficult to say no.
Pros
Wage
Cons
Hard, stessful, pressure from management.

Fast pace environment.
Store Assistant (Former Employee) - Galway, County Galway - 27 April 2022
You can get more hours if the management requires someone. Very fast pace environment. You are been monitored on all the task you perform in store. Over all I was satisfied to work there because of the pay.

Bad People Culture
Store Assistant (Former Employee) - Dublin, County Dublin - 20 March 2022
Disrespectful Environment. Bullying Environment. They don't care about workers wellbeing. They are dismissive towards someone's age so if you are older you will never be promoted. Stay away from this company!

Hard work
Store Assistant (Former Employee) - Limerick, County Limerick - 9 March 2022
Very physical shifts are 16:00 to 14:00 and 14:00 till 22:30 lots of pressure and short staffed. Not much training and micromanagement. Money is good but its going downhill got are bonus taken off us usually receive a 30 cent pay rise and 500 euro voucher for shop but this year removed voucher and gave 60 cent payrise raised all prices in shop so not really getting payrise just keeping with cost of living

Extremely Stressful!
Store assistant (Current Employee) - Carlow Town, County Carlow - 15 November 2021
Extremely difficult and stressful job. You get paid more then other retailers but does it worth at the end? NO, it does not! Every one I know working in Aldi has developed back pain after a year or less. Huge staff turnaround and no wonder they struggle to attract new hirers. They recently launched new campaign in order to attract new hires, if a current employee refer someone else, it gets paid 500 after a year, yet still can't find people, that is why they hire literally just any one. That is why you see people on the tills barely speak English. People are leaving because of the stress and constant pressure. If you are lady you will get more privileges like doing easier job, seating on the tills most of time etc. But if you are man, you are done...you will carry all the physical work in a shift, you will be the donkey for the day! You will sign up for a 25 hours per week contract and you will usually get 30 hours, sometimes more on a busy periods, but if they decide they will send you home anytime thru out your shift, that is why they keep every one on 25 hours contract. If you "know too much" then you will get your basic 25 hours in favor of someone else (there are always a pets) who will get up to 40 hours per week, even though you will have same 25 hours contract. What I have learned? I have learned to hate retail. Management? Like I mentioned earlier, because of the high staff turnover Aldi hires literary everything and every one, interview just exist as a formality, so at certain point some of those who excel in "yes boss", if you know what I mean, they get promoted -
Pros
Free coffee and tea (Aldi brand)
Cons
Everything else you can imagine

Extremely hard work
Store Assistant (Current Employee) - Waterford, County Waterford - 12 November 2021
The pay is the only positive I can come up with, although it is a monthly paycheck. There is no work/life balance. The work is backbreaking, expect a lot of injuries from minor (cuts and bruises) to major (back, knees, neck, feet). Scheduling is three weeks out but could be scheduled days then nights in same week. Days off are for recuperating, so tired and sore I don't want to leave bed/sofa and you'll never have two days off in a row. Every job assigned has a time limit you are expected to meet almost immediately after you start from the dsm's.
Pros
Pay
Cons
No set hours, time limits, no work/life balance

Difficult but worth it.
Store Assistant (Former Employee) - Fermoy, County Cork - 11 November 2021
It is a fast paced environment, but in saying that you are paid for your efforts. Hitting targets is rewarded , but vice veras to, not hitting targets is frowned upon.

An excellent opportunity for an experienced retail worker
Store Assistant (Current Employee) - Mullingar, County Westmeath - 11 November 2021
The benefits and opportunities with Aldi are excellent but the expectations are very high. There is no formal training, just a training time period, which can be challenging because you rely on word of mouth regularly to fully comprehend what way things are done upto the Aldi standards. The management can depend on who you get, some staff members can be very supportive, while others can leave you feeling lost, while trying to find your feet in the job. If you are new to the retail sector, then you are in for a rude awakening with Aldi, as they have tight time periods for offloading pallets and expect you to be quick on your feet for 8-10 hours straight. The hardest part of the job is learning where everything is and the individual different types of the same product or keeping up with the pace of the work. The most rewarding part of the job is the friends you make with staff members and customers during your employment. If you enjoy that fast paced work rate then you will love the company as the career progression opportunities are there and your pay goes up every year that you are with Aldi. The store can have poor staff retention too which means more of chance of you being called in during your day off and affecting your already poor work-life balance. Lastly you get your roster 4 weeks in advance but it can be changed upto a week before your workday due to staff sickness, retention, etc.
Pros
30mins paid break, free uniform, high retailer discounts
Cons
High pressure and expectations, No formal training, Poor staff retention.

Horrific place to work. Belittling and bullying is normal procedure. No respect for people's health at all
Store Assistant (Current Employee) - Blackrock, County Cork - 5 November 2021
Fast pasing environment, very hard working conditions, awful treatment by the managment, belittling, shouting, rushing - that's every day life. Altogether no respect. Pay although slightly better than other retailers not worth of loosing your physical and mental health. No work life balance. Would not recommend at all.

Work life balance shocking
Store Assistant (Former Employee) - Carrigtwohill, County Cork - 3 November 2021
Forget about seeing your friends and family when you work here you will never be able to socialise your 2 days off a week could be 1 day at a time and could consist of a night shift the night before the day off and a day shift the day after which you will also be getting up at 5 in the morning to start at 6 so you can never make any plans on your day off absolutely shocking would not recommend
Pros
Good pay
Cons
Work life balance and management shocking
