A task orientated workplace
I work a shift pattern in a kitchen environment with military and civilian staff. The job starts with cleaning ovens, then doing food prep for the evening meal for the customers. During the rest of the shift is is just a question of keeping the kitchen and kitchen equipment clean and put away. The military kitchen stafff are more transient but the civvy staff are good fun to be around and work with. The management side of the staff are poor and the mess seems to stagger from crisis to crisis with little or no support from higher up the managment chain. The co workers are an interesting mix of talents with no direction or training from higher management. (I took over six months to get a supervisor). There are no parts of the job which are too difficult, it is all a queston of organisation and routine. The best part of the job is communicating with the military mess members
Pros
There are no 'pros' to the job
Cons
I have just had my working time cut by 5 hours a week and some of my benifits changed or removed

a job is a job
Was hired on the spot, oppertunities for advancement, relatively easy to pick up shiftsunionized- cant really negotiate for yourself as a worker, it is sometimes problematic to take breaks due to work load, fellow employees refuse to do more work than what they have to. union dues are high. poor treatment of part time employees (student employees too), by managers and fulltime employees,
Pros
meals are included at little deduction from paycheck
Cons
hardest job i have ever had
