Arup Employee Review
I worked out on Whiddy Island for over a year while the SPM Pipeline was being built. This was being built after the explosion on Whiddy Island. It was enjoyable, we learned fire fighting, how to sail. I took minutes of meetings when the directors of Ascon, Whiddy Oil and Ove Arups had their weekly meetings. I took deliveries that were sent to the Island, collected post from the post office in Bantry. Arranged lunches, travel for the directors and organized on and off site meetings.

Beautiful Island, different place to work, loved getting the boat to work.
Sailing to work in the winter was the only con.
Working with Arup is working within a team. One feels an important team member and Arup have a depth of talent to dealt with any issues that may arise on site or during design phases.
Great team members, good at proactive career training

Good place to start your career as their 70-20-10 learning policy will improve your engineering skills through the development of projects (70%), by explanations of colleagues (20%) and by direct training (10%). Usually the working hours are from 9.00 am to 5.30 pm but depending on the deadlines, unpaid overtime may be necessary. I would underline the respect among all colleagues, regardless of the management level. Comparing to competitors salaries in general are too low, and twice a year paid profit share won´t compensate that.
Low salary. Money spent in Adds, Community Engagement and Charities.
Profit share and Social Committee events.
