Friendly team ruined by rude, entitled management

Busy and fast paced work environment. Employees are friendly although competitive and aggressive at times, however the whole experience is ruined by the condescending, rude and entitled management staff. Incredibly ineffective at day to day business. Hugely apparent hierarchy and divide between managers and everyone else below them. There is obviously very little connection between HR and the management as they treat you like you are nothing to them which must be awful for staff turnover considering how much time and money they put into induction and training. If you feel like you are getting unfair treatment from them, I can assure you that’s just how they treat everyone.

I thought working on Brown Thomas was a great job and I was very happy that I got to work with loads of lovely people. Very busy during the Christmas season but can’t complain as if keeps you busy

Good atmosphere can be demanding

Bad working environment

The management that are employed by BT’s seemed to be the worst imaginable. They are rude and entitled and mean. The work environment among most of the staff is competitive and there will always be someone talking about you behind your back. If you’re sensitive I wouldn’t work here

Amazing group of people, ruined by a small number of hierarchy

Would be such a lovely place to work if it wasn’t ruined by the unreasonable management. There is a lovely sense of camaraderie on the beauty floor but can be hard to enjoy your days there when you are nearly harassed by management for minuscule things, on hot days we are barely allowed have a fan to keep us cool or allowed have a bottle of water to keep us hydrated “as it doesn’t look good to customers”; told we aren’t allowed to hug eachother when saying hello or goodbye as it’s “unprofessional” there is one manager in particular that is very passive aggressive and makes the days very hard when she is there. It’s a pity because I was so enthusiastic at the beginning of my journey with BTA. I can’t paint all of the management with the same brush as there are some lovely people there in the management roles but when it comes to having your back (even when right) they will not support you to avoid a disgruntled customer

the managers are really nice in terms of when you can and can't work, everyones helpful, but it can be very fast paced and busy, and the days can be pretty long.

Very bias management

Since company was sold and new management came, it's clear that they want to get rid of workers who are there from before the sale. They need people who they can shape how they want.

The staff turnover is crazy for a reason

Felt invisible by many long term members of staff and management. A good few people I know left because of this reason. Also they only seem to give time off to their favorite staff. People will likely steal your commission and clients repeatedly. I always overheard mean comments about my appearance. Micro managing is a real thing here too. The discount is good but I'm glad I left.

Awful place to work

A nice multicultural environment to work. A typical day at work is very active assisting customers, promoting sales and helping the team. I had the opportunity to learn about team leadership and management as well.

Toxic work environment

I was over worked, underpaid and treated terribly by senior management. There is a toxic culture of manipulation and exploitation in the company with almost no hr regulations in place to protect your rights as a worker. The staff turnover is terrible, meaning that the brunt of the work falls on staff who have been there longer. This also means that promotions can happen quickly but to people that are i experience and I’ll equipped.

My favourite job

Really good place to work at it’s very hard to secure a permanent contract, I really enjoyed my time there the team leaders and other staff were soo nice. They give great breaks and permanent staff get free food on Sundays which is good. Was a really great place to work with over all
