Poor Management
Administrator (Former Employee) - Kildare, County Kildare - 16 September 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedThe values and aims of the organisation are fantastic and they should make for an idyllic setting for staff and service users. However, management just don’t care about the staff, staff are paid very poorly and given no praise for all the extra that they do. Staff turnover is so high because staff are just not valued.
Pros
Wonderful people using the service, the core values and ethos are fantastic and should make for an amazing workplace.
Cons
Poor management, especially at senior level. Low wages, no benefits and no thanks for extra work

Best place to work best place for community members
Social Care Worker (Current Employee) - Callan, County Kilkenny - 1 December 2023
In Camphill now nearly 3 years. Camphill have changed my life forever in so many positive ways. I couldn’t be more grateful for my manager to ever take me on. She is the absolute best. I couldn’t ask for better people to work with. I have been given so much opportunity to grow and personally develop and they have been nothing but absolutely unreal. If I even had a family member who would need specialised care, I would choose Camphill only. Community members are in absolute best hands here and each and every staff member truly puts their heart and soul in caring for their community members. It is a company and community that will always mean so much for me; I truly feel blessed to have found them. I have had some of the best memories and times here and it I can’t imagine my world without Camphill. It’s like a home to me in some way and it is truly the warmest homely place for the community members. I have developed some of the best connections through Camphill and it motivates me daily to be the best I can be which is such a difference to many other places I have worked previously. I cannot wait to see what the future brings. I’m really forever grateful

Insights into Camphill Communities of Ireland
Areas for improvement
- Trust in colleagues
- Sense of belonging
- Support from manager
Very poor experience with lower end of the pay scale compared to other healthcare providers
Area Manager (Former Employee) - Dublin, County Dublin - 19 September 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Non the experience I had was deplorable, and this came from the very top down. Poor practice and very poor management following orders again from the top down What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Dealing with the people in head office, and the powers that be having no clue of budgets, staffing levels or poor practice. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? On the ground it’s fine but can be frustrating for staff, when there is no proper governance and oversight. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Depends on the day but it’s usually not from the clients it’s from head office and above.

Fast pace and stressful at times
Social Care Worker (Former Employee) - Kilcullen, County Kildare - 13 August 2023
It was a privilege to work in camphill in Kildare, definitely a learning experience and can be a very fast paced environment. Residents are lovely and surprise you everyday with their capabilities and knowledge. Only negative aspect would be the express lack of staff and lack of support from management. All staff are also underpaid . Staff are on the there feet all day with little to no breaks , go above and beyond for all service users and most are making less than €15 a hour
Pros
Service users
Cons
Pay

Low moral
Social Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Kylr coolagh callan co kilkenny - 24 March 2023
Management were terrible to deal with, most of the great workers have left. Always looking for cars. Day services are a joke. Someone calls in sick or doesnt show its left to whoever is on to cover it meaning you get stuck there.so stressful for such little pay
Cons
Service users are not priority

Very different place to work
Social Care Worker (Former Employee) - Wexford, County Wexford - 29 November 2022

Lovely staff, beautiful residents
Social Care Worker (Current Employee) - Callan, County Kilkenny - 2 November 2022
This was my first experience working in I D. Previous experience was with children in care so this was a new challenge. I was surprised how easily I fitted into the care setting in Camphill. The focus is very much on the client but staff get well looked after too. Having worked here, I would definitely chose working in ID over teenagers in care any day.
Pros
Great social care environment to work. Ideal for students looking for work.
Cons
Long shifts. But that suits some people as lots of time off after shifts

Progressive and rewarding
Social Care Worker (Current Employee) - Kilkenny, County Kilkenny - 26 October 2022
Camphill had until recently been slow to move with the times but in the last two years it has progressed rapidly. There is now a rolling roster, competitive pay scale, job security, competent and approachable management but above all it's a rewarding place to work on a personal level. There are friendly, motivated staff and above all a high standard of care for residents. There are organisations with better rates of pay for sure, however working in a place you enjoy for a euro less is far more rewarding.

A job where everyday can be fun and rewarding
Social Care Worker (Current Employee) - Kilkenny - 10 August 2022
I love working for CCoI. It has definitely become an organization transformed but it's still growing and adapting. If you like that everyday is unique and not the same day in and day out, this is the place for you. We get to share in the lives of the persons with support and live with them - it's more than a mere check the box experience.

Jobs at Camphill Communities of Ireland
Volunteer
KYLE (Former Employee) - Kilkenny, Ireland - 13 February 2022
If you have a chance to go and work there, you are gifted. The community is wonderful, resident and coworkers are very nice. Managers are good, but office people should be more qualified.
Pros
Wonderful atmosphere
Cons
It is a volunteer job, do not expect too much money

Challenging at times but so is every job
Homemaker (Current Employee) - Kilcullen, County Kildare - 17 September 2021
The Bridge is a great place to work. It's a privilege to work with residents who welcome me into their home. Standards are good, but as a company we are poorly governanced nationally and underpaid. HIQA have standards but its apparent each Camphill is left to their own devices until the final crunch with catch ups at the eleventh hour. The HSE are neither use or design. No other HSE funded facility would have a team of well experienced, skilled staff to work in line with minimum wages. Local management are not supported sufficiently though signs of light appearing. HSE need to FUND The Bridge.
Pros
Hours
Cons
Staff shortages

Not for the feint-hearted
Social Care Assistant (Current Employee) - Dingle, County Kerry - 10 September 2021
There are high demands for this job, yet the benefits are seeing the impact on the lives of the community members that we serve. Camphill is out there when it comes to training for staff and goes above and beyond to look after their community members. Camphill is really trying to up the ante, and have seen massive changes in the structure of the organisation, with more on the horizon.
Pros
Satisfying job, training opportunities, an organisation that listens and works on changes
Cons
Not for every one, management can seem heavy handed - yet this is for the greater good of the community

Governance and Management
Social Care Worker (Former Employee) - Grange Beg, County Kildare - 3 June 2021
Constant paycuts breaking employees contracts, No premiums to staff, cutting overnight to minimum wage, Sick pay allowances on contracts where changed and left to employers discretion, Rosters given on a one week basis with only 4-5 days notice before start of expected shift, No support with further education as was assured during interview, Management have no regard for employees using staff members until the point they stand up for themselves, Once this happens management turn against employees and will make your job so unbearable that you are forced to leave, I was asked to work every sleepover on the Friday night of my weekend off meaning for twelve months I never had an entire weekend off to spend with my family.
Pros
Working the residents can be very rewarding.
Cons
No support from management, they will make employer's life unbearable until they need to leave.

Staff heading towards third day of striking.
Health Care Assistant (Current Employee) - Ireland - 7 April 2021
10 / 12 hour shifts. No breaks. Understaffed. A lot of agency staff, limited consistency for residents, HIQA 28 day notice at present. Nothing changes until something bad happens, you will get the blame for everything, false sense of security. Management are nice to your face, sometimes, if you are lucky.
Pros
Amazing scenery, farm life, residents are a joy to work with
Cons
Management. Awful attitude on site and further up the chain. No regard for staff well-being.

Lovely place but management are bullies
Social Care Worker (Former Employee) - Dingle, County Kerry - 27 March 2021
It's a beautiful place and is not as institutionalised as many but my god , the management their are shocking right to the top . Impossible to keep staff because of this which adds more stress. Avoid .
Pros
Staff and residents are lovely
Cons
Management are bullies

The people supported in Kilcullen are lovely, the surroundings are fantastic and the staff overall are helpful.
House Co Ordinator (Former Employee) - Kilcullen - 17 March 2021
The bad bits are a total lack of leadership. This organisation has more turnover of staff than any other service. The ethos and way of life is based on an out dated hippy type Comunity ideal. Co workers from abroad for a unpaid camp counsellor experience are worked to the bone, mostly teenage girls. HIQA are in constantly, because there is non compliance and poor standards. The Management they employ are at best struggling Amateurs. Avoid.
Pros
Nice surroundings.
Cons
Pay, work contact, lack of structure.

Don’t work here
Social Care Worker (Former Employee) - Kildare - 15 February 2021
Terrible communication systems , Poor standard of paperwork , institutional in its workings and somewhat stuck in a time warp! Don’t join here if you want to learn anything positive about social care! I spent more time baby sitting volunteers and watching management play house! This place is the scrap yard of the caring profession cause ultimately that’s what it will make you feel like , a piece of scrap! Staff try their best for the residents but eventually get burnt out banging their heads off the wall as management don’t listen! “We’ve always done things this way here “ is the motto and it’s just not good enough in this day and age!
Pros
Residents are lovely
Cons
Organization don’t care about the staff or residents

Once in a life time experience, a lot of hard work.
Volunteer Worker (Former Employee) - Carrick on Suir, Tipperary, Ireland - 12 May 2020
It was interesting to live and work with vulnerable adults and have young co-workers who were passionate about what we were doing. The community was very kind and patient, a beautiful place. We worked about 50-60 hours a week, with one full day off a week.
