Insights into Circle K
Areas for improvement
- General feeling of work happiness
- Sense of belonging
- Overall satisfaction
it's a club and you ain't in it.
Customer Sales Representative (Former Employee) - Circle K Ireland - 1 November 2023
Typical day at work ; co workers stand around on their phones while you do everything and then are questioned the following day as to why X,Y and Z wasn't done. Biased workplace. Bad management. Depends on the site. Choose where you apply to very very carefully. .site 1 is heaven where you'll enjoy your shift, site 2 is hel on earth that will leave you questioning how you ever tricked yourself into applying. Really changes per site no two ways about it. Ill say it again, be very careful where you choose to go. Some sites would make the dole look attractive.
Pros
Free lunch is about it the only pro realistically.
Cons
No teamwork, unfair workloads, unrealistic expectations

Productive and fun workplace
SALES ASSISTANT (Part-Time) (Current Employee) - Drogheda, County Louth - 18 September 2023
Typical day at work is cleaning , serving customers . I learned how to deal with difficult situations working here . Hardest part of the job is dealing with horrible customers and standing for long hours at a time . Most enjoyable part is working with fun people who encourage you to keep gooing .
Pros
Discounts on fuel and free certain food + drinks
Cons
Timetable is only given to you at a short notice, Work isnt always fairly divided between workers

Good work colleagues, but low pay for the work required
Customer Assistant (Former Employee) - Dublin, County Dublin - 11 September 2023
Depends on your store size and location, but generally speaking, job can be a lot of work and pressure for the pay (effectively minimum wage). Most managers I encountered were fine, providing you did your best. Discounted fuel, free coffee and sandwich were appreciated. They recently introduced a KPI system called 'LIFT', which subtly pressures staff to upsell as much as possible. They send around the results weekly to each store, in a 'league table' format, but there's no reward or incentive for hitting targets. Clearly a tactic to shame "underperforming employees", more than anything else, lol. Best part of the job is your co-workers. Ultimately, it's an ok part-time job for those requiring some flexibility .

Official response from Circle K
14 September 2023Thank you for reviewing your time with Circle K! We are always looking for new ways to show our appreciation for our employees. People Perks is a great program that allows employees to enjoy discounted food/beverage items and even fuel savings! We have amazing team members, and they really make the difference!
Poor management
Customer Assistant (Former Employee) - Wicklow, County Wicklow - 31 August 2023
Workload was unmanageable to say the least and management exacerbated problems rather help to resolve them. Most customers were nice though. Part time workers treated less favourably than full time

It's grand
Supervisor (Former Employee) - Cork, County Cork - 28 August 2023
Co-workers make or break it. Good coworkers make day go by fast and fun, bad coworkers make it a drag. The biggest thing is abusive customers. Not too common but also not rare enough. That isn't anything the company can do but is an unfortunate aspect of customer service jobs. Overall had a grand time.

Bad management
Deli Assistant (Former Employee) - Kilmacanoge, County Wicklow - 20 August 2023
Extremley stressful site to work in, most days the supervisors and managers would hide out the back and leave new staff alone and untrained. Orders where never made correctly by managers/supervisors so prepare yourself to be apologising all day on their behalf to customers. Shop also has no air conditioning and the HR do nothing about it because there is a revamp that planned in two years and it is acceptable accordingly to make people work in 31 degree heat on minimum wage so be wary of the deli jobs especially as you will be working next to ovens radiating more heat. Since I started the deli should have been shut down in terms of health and safety as the management and supervisors never cleaned properly and told me not to clean things until visits from hr. Overall extremely unprofessional management, high stress levels, uneven distribution of work loads, if you don’t want to be left alone serving in the busiest sites in wicklow or cleaning up after other people don’t work here!
Pros
Free lunch

Deli Assistant (Former Employee) - Carlow, County Carlow - 17 August 2023
If you don’t want a social life or enjoy being miserable work here. Management think they are better than everyone and blame others when things go wrong

Kip
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Westmeath - 17 August 2023
What a kip worked ten years there to b handed a bag of tayto when I left. Told my contract worth nothing when COVID came not to mention all the promotions they give and no training on how to treat staff. I wouldn't go back for a million euro.

Ok for part time
Deli Assistant (Former Employee) - Rathcoole, County Dublin - 16 August 2023
I recently had the opportunity to work at Circle K, and I must say it was an okay experience. While it had its positives, it didn't exactly knock my socks off. On the plus side, the flexibility of the shifts was a big perk. It allowed me to balance work with other commitments in my life. Also, the team I worked with was generally friendly, and I appreciated the camaraderie we had during our shifts. However, there were some downsides that kept me from loving my time there. The pay was just average, and it felt like there wasn't much room for advancement. The training process could definitely use some improvement, as it felt rushed and left me feeling a bit unprepared during my first shifts. Moreover, the fast-paced nature of the convenience store environment sometimes led to a bit of stress, especially during peak hours when things got busy. The work itself was fine, but it didn't leave me feeling overly excited or fulfilled. In a nutshell, working at Circle K was an okay experience for me. It's not the best job out there, but if you're looking for something with flexible hours and a decent team, it might be worth considering. Just be prepared for a bit of a learning curve and the usual challenges that come with working in retail.

Not great
Night Shift Supervisor (Former Employee) - Cashel, County Tipperary - 31 July 2023
Not great since circle k took over. High turnover. Promises of improvement never kept. Very poor head office management with little regards for low level employees.

Abismal pay , unprofessional
Assistant Manager (Current Employee) - Dublin, County Dublin - 12 July 2023
Handy, easy job to be honest, but for a multibillion euro / dollar company , they could well pay their staff a lot more. If you starting at the bottom as a sales assistant ; you’re earning a few cents over minimum wage ; and they’ll be proud of this , when in reality , the workload they require is similar to those of their big competitors , who are paying nearly triple more p/h. To give an example , a sales assistant in Lidl, will earn +\- €1 less than an assistant manager in circle k. Managers often hired with no people skills ; used to fill gaps , which then filters down into how they speak and treat their employees, leading to no professionalism in the workplace.

Forecourt Attendant (Former Employee) - Newcastle West, County Limerick - 5 July 2023
Enjoyed my time there, wage wasn’t great but acquired plenty of tips from customers in the car wash. Friendly staff made the day fly by and there was never any stress

The branch where I was assigned was the worst place to work with. No concern for the welfare of their staffs, dishonest, no teamwork and no respect.
STORE SUPERVISOR (Former Employee) - Dublin, County Dublin - 31 May 2023
The managers was not Irish, they are Lithuainians and was very bad in managing staffs and also very rude when interacting with other customers and delivery persons and suppliers. Also, they are not professionals and no good education and proper training as superiors.
