Jobs at Comfort Keepers
Poor rates of pay
Home Support Worker (Current Employee) - Galway, County Galway - 28 October 2023
For the work we do, looking after vulnerable sick people, rates of pay are very poor. The mileage rate we get does not cover all the fuel that is used going between clients. Working with the elderly people is good and rewarding but pay is not.

Desperate, low pay, ignorant, not a good place, AVOID, DONT PAY FOR TRAINING.
Carer (Former Employee) - Waterford, County Waterford - 13 October 2023
This place is a place I definitely would not work for as it takes advantage of people. They expect you to do all the training on your own and at your own expense. The pay for nothing. Absolutely a kip. Stay clear of here. The dog they have working in the office called phyl is a yoke.
Pros
Kip
Cons
Kip

Rewarding work but tough conditions
Care Assistant (Current Employee) - Cork, County Cork - 6 October 2023
Love being a care assistant, clients are wonderful, but agreed working hours are never respected, very short rest periods, and staff are not looked after.

Insights into Comfort Keepers
What people like
- Ability to meet personal goals
Areas for improvement
- Fair pay for job
- Support from manager
- Overall satisfaction
Stress
Health Care Assistant (Current Employee) - Dublin, County Dublin - 14 September 2023
Do not care for the carers. Not enough travel time between clients especially if you are depending on public transport or dont even have time to eat. Some office staff in the Dublin office are very rude. Wouldn't recommend working for this company to anyone I know. When trying to stand up for yourself to get time for lunch or whatever is needed they don't like it.
Pros
Very rewarding
Cons
Long hours

Good clients, good support, terrible schedule, bad salary
Health Care Assistant (Current Employee) - Limerick, County Limerick - 17 August 2023
The work is good and grateful, good environment but you spend most part of your time driving and you weren't paid for this, there are too much gaps in the roaster, sometimes 3 hour to the next client and again you weren't paid for this, for example your first client is at 9:00 and the last 21:00 you were 12 hours available to the company, but you only will be paid for 6 hours because there were a lot of gaps in the schedule and you spent the rest of. Time driving for me that's no fair

I have learned so much from other cares and work with a good team, but the office staff are toxic
Health Care Assistant (Current Employee) - Drogheda, County Louth - 20 May 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The ardee office are beyond terrible, too many people getting jobs for "family" and they are not trained or even capable of speaking with carers or families with any compassion or empathy. They hound you to cover extra calls, never forward planner carer holidays and then lie to us when the call the day before calls need to be covered, saying someone is sick when in fact we all know someone is actually on annual leave. You cannot stand up for yourself as you will be belittled in front of others. I love my job but the staff in the Ardee office male it so difficult and mentally draining What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Having to deal with untrained rude staff in the Ardee office What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Horrendous, they cover their own backsides when they mess up and will happily blame anyone and never hold their hands up when they are at fault What is a typical day like for you at the company? Brilliant I love working with my clients, but as soon as the office get involved the day turns to disaster

Good experience to learn
Recruitment Coordinator (Former Employee) - Galway, County Galway - 21 April 2023
I think CK is great for learning ( Recruitment in my case) However, the pay is low and they are not flexible around it. Hard to get a career growth if you are not located in Dublin area. Management is nice and team is lovely. Overall, I am grateful for my experience.
Pros
Management, people, work from home and from abroad for 2 weeks. Good Friday off. Birthday off.
Cons
Pay, Career progression.

Loved my clients but would not recommend working for comfort keepers
Caretaker (Former Employee) - Dublin, County Dublin - 13 March 2023
If your friends with HR staff and management then you’ll be fine, you’ll be looked after, you’ll be given the easy jobs, closest ones and the hours. If not it’s not worth your time working there, you’ll be expected to travel 1+ hours on bus/bicycle or scooter if you do not drive, you won’t get the hours you were promised. You’ll be taking advantage of. And this happened to all the new employees. Not worth your time working for this company.

I have been at Comfort Keepers for 6 years and have always enjoyed my time here. I am grateful for the opportunities that have arisen for me. I have had the chance to progress through different roles and departments and further understand the homecare sector. Everyday is a learning curve and with the support of a great team and management anything is possible. It is a wonderful organisation and I am proud to be apart of it.

Will overwork you and disregard your availability
Health Care Assistant (Current Employee) - Limerick, County Limerick - 13 February 2023
Office management overwork carers, require 8 weeks notice of change to your schedule but will put calls outside your availability on schedule all the time. Frequent calls to you, including when you are with patients, and can be relentless at calling, repeatedly calling again and again until you answer. Give no time to travel in between calls, despite constant reminders by carers that they need travel time. Never have enough carers and will request that you go to people despite never having my them, which goes against their own policy of shadowing people so patients can know who you are. Never follow up on any report in relation to concerns or worries about patient safety. Changes to schedule made at all times often without informing carers, has resulted in patients left without carers at all. Continue to take on new patients when no carers are available at all. Disregards any commitments carers have and pressures carers to work hours that they don't have availability to do. Often hard to get an answer from office staff about anything and are often rude to carers on the phone.
Pros
Patients can be nice
Cons
Long hours, bad management, disregards carers commitments and availability

17 February 2023Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate your honesty. Our main priority is to ensure our clients receive safe care at every visit and due to circumstances out of our control this may mean you are contacted outside of your availability however we understand that it is not possible for you to always help on these occasions and that's ok too. I am sorry your experience with the office and regarding your availability was not what you expected and I would be delighted to speak further to you and discuss possible solutions. If you would like to speak to me further please don't hesitate to contact me on mollyduff@comfortkeepers.ie.
