Medical – more...devices are primarily designed by physicians or custom-made for them for use in a variety of diagnostic, critical care, surgical, and therapeutic procedures. Cook Incorporated, founded in 1963, is the first US manufacturer to produce matched sets of needles, catheters, and wire guides for open surgical procedures. Operations Cook Incorporated operates an interventional radiology business, established in 2009, that offers drainage catheters, special purpose biopsy needles, and vertebroplasty devices used to inject cement into fractured bones. The company also offers bioengineered tissue replacement and regeneration technology. Strategy Once they've made it through the rigorous FDA approval process, new products and their global launches are the backbone to Cook Incorporated's growth. In 2011 the company received approval for two renal stents; that followed the approval and subsequent launch of an esophageal stent used during the treatment of cancer. Sales and Marketing Cook Incorporated sells its products directly to hospitals and doctors and through third-party distributors worldwide. Premier Purchasing Partners, the group-purchasing organization of national health care alliance Premier, is one of its most noteworthy contracts. As part of the contract, Cook Incorporated's diagnostic and interventional radiology products, including peripheral vascular and biliary stents, are available to some 2,400 hospitals and 70,000 health care facilities nationwide. The company conducts its global sales and marketing efforts through four strategic business units: Diagnostic and Interventional (interventional radiology, cardiology, and vascular surgery), Critical Care (emergency clinical needs and critical care specialties), Endovascular Therapy (device technology for endovascular treatment), and Surgical (biomaterials for general and plastic surgical applications). – less
