Enjoyed the Work, but not the Pay
Cashier and Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Sterling - 5 November 2018
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedI liked working at the Dollar Store in Sterling Park Va. The customers were friendly, my manager was nice and the cash register was very easy to use. Why I left was because the hours and money were awful and there wasn’t that much of an opportunity for advancement.
Pros
Easy work, nice manager and coworkers, friendly customers
Cons
Below average pay, lack of hours, benefits

Mistreatment of Employees
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) - Saint Augustine, FL - 28 November 2023
Horrible company to work for. Passed me for manager to guys then pushed me out because I made to much as an ASM. Was forced to work alone too many times to count.

Unorganized
Set Up Crew (Former Employee) - Thunder bay - 28 November 2023
I had scheduled an interview only to show up and wait hours due to it accepting walk-ins. That's fine and all but no priority to appointments booked. It was pathetically unorganized. The management had no concern for the appointments booked. after hours of waiting and watching people sneak ahead of me I couldn't continue. In all my years I've never seen anything like this

Over worked underpaid
Assistant Operations Manager (Former Employee) - Glendale, AZ - 28 November 2023
You would work 2ppl per shift and it’s not fair for the pay you are always running to complete a display or stock and being called to help run a register

Assistant Manager (Current Employee) - Columbia, MO - 28 November 2023
It’s a good part time second job, but you work for pennys frfr. They only have part time hours, and even when they say they have hours, they don’t allow you to work them

An enjoyable place to work
Cashier/Customer Service (Former Employee) - Davie, FL - 27 November 2023
the hardest part of working at Dollar Tree is that during holidays, there are never enough employees on the floor to handle the crowds. The best part of the job was dealing with the public. Most of my customers were Hispanics with little to no English skills, and I enjoyed the ability to communicate with them in their language. They really appreciated the fact that I spoke spanish as well.
Pros
Flexible schedule
Cons
Not enough employees

Income but needs improvement on the corporate level.
What is the best part of working at the company? The manager of that location. As well as the other employees. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The way products are ordered by a totally separate place which leads to over ordering. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? It varies from store to store. I have trying reaching out to HR several times to change my direct deposit account and never really did get to talk to anyone. I was prompted to leave a voice mail. I also responded to them via email and again never got a response that way either. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Busy but steady. Satisfying being able to help customers and my fellow employees.

Good environment and people
Cashier (Current Employee) - Bakersfield, CA - 27 November 2023
Coworkers are cool. Days are pretty busy and the schedule is a little wonky but management is understanding and relaxed. Great place to work if you like cheap stuff

It was a job
Overnight Stocker (Former Employee) - New Bedford, MA - 26 November 2023
It was always my second job, just for extra income. In the 7 years I worked at my store I had 5 different store managers. That tells you something. I just showed up and did my job, was as productive as possible.

Productive and professional.
Cashier (Former Employee) - Owasso, OK - 26 November 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The hours. The training. The managers over the store, and the general manager. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Am I stressful part was remembering to do the sales while you were checking out customers especially during the holidays. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Fast and friendly service. A professional atmosphere professional training. What is a typical day like for you at the company? You were clock in with the managers you would get your tray you will count your drawer. And your manager would tell you what the daily or weekly adds was to do the announcements, then you would turn on your light and then you would check out your customers, if you got more than four customers behind and your line they would send other people another cashier out to open up another line. And then you would do put backs. And basically you just would do that until the end of your shift and then you would do a chore like clean the bathroom, or the break room. And then you would have escort one of the managers, to drop off the bank bag. And that would be it and you would go home.

Made me work when closed for rats, got sick with Mersa and Staph and was fired for calling off sick.
Frieght and Sales (Former Employee) - Lincoln Park, MI - 26 November 2023
Easy job if you work hard but no respect given. They treat you like dirt the minute you need accomidations or are ill. But the shifts were easy if you work hard.
Pros
easy shifts/schedule
Cons
short shifts/hours, bad management

Unloader (Former Employee) - Rosenberg, TX - 25 November 2023
Decent job but alot of work and never enough. Nice facility the pay is not much unless you're in college or high school. Texas wages are generally lowest in the nation anyway so it's okay for Texas

Not good at all
Cashier/Customer Service (Former Employee) - Missoula, MT - 25 November 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The pay is not worth it and you can never get promoted to anything but what you are higherd for. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? All of it is stressful so I would not recommen anyone for this job. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Hostile, rude, disorganized, some of the Dollar trees aren't even clean and there's food in there you really do not want to buy. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Sometimes very slow sometimes very busy and the staff are very rude.

G.O.L.D. Standard failure
Associate (Current Employee) - Red Bluff, CA - 24 November 2023
The list of duties and description of the job you applied for isn't actually yours,it's whatever the DM,Store Manager,or Freight manager tell you it is. You have no real acceptance with managers. There are hazards and little regard to safety of the customers. Boxes all over the floors of unopened products. No planned stocking no organization and some of the managers have their children work under the table. They play favorites so if your in their way they treat you like garbage.
Pros
Free plastic bags
Cons
Poor Management, No actual training, Weak Time Management, Favoritism

Cashier/Store Associate/ASM (Former Employee) - Goderich, ON - 23 November 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The customers are great. Store manager is nice to work with... What is the most stressful part about working at the company? A manager coming from other store , harassing and intimating employees. They don't fire you...they force you to quit...... What is the work environment and culture like at the company? If you are a cashier/ freight the job is great...customers are great. What is a typical day like for you at the company? For me most days were ok. There are times where the job can be stressful.

Productive and fun working place.
Cashier/Floor Assistant (Former Employee) - Arizona - 23 November 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Fast and easy part-time job for a little extra money for every week. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? You'll be surprised to see people going full time shopping. Then wanting to use some kind of other government assistance to pay for it and it's a long process. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? No lie, it depends on which one you apply for. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Mostly slow until the holidays come up.
