Dunnes Stores Employee Review

It's a handful

The only good thing to come out of working from Dunnes were my coworkers, whom I got along extremely well with and the 20% discount that you were allowed to share with others. However, my manager was atrocious. They were extremely unprofessional and would make negative comments about your work ethic, infront of customers and other workers in an attempt to purposely humilaite you and put you down. They would also go out of their way to talk down on you as if you were to not know how to do anything correctly. Higher management are just as bad and similarly put down staff aswell, they act as if they’re all higher than you and are very smug about it. They are also very manipulative and will make you out to be deranged or overly sensitive for anything you go against. The pay is fairly good but not enough for the amount of work you're expected to put in, which goes under appreciated for aswell. Customers would see how management treated us and so that gave them the impression that they could do the same . The only time customers got put in their place was when they had a problem with management themselves and not us. The hours you were given were also terrible and unorganised. You would be put in for times or days that you mentioned you couldn't do. And instead of taking it upon themselves to fix, they would put it on you to figure something out. Stay away from Dunnes Stores Leopardstown!

Fun, productive, could be stressful but that’s retail

Worked in Dunnes for 15 years. Could be stressful at times particularly around Christmas etc but that’s to be expected in retail. Staff get a discount, and a good bonus at Christmas. Pay is low to start but gets better if you stick with them. Some managers can be hard to work with sometimes, but if you work hard it generally will be noticed and rewarded. If you make it clear that you want to progress within the company, there are many opportunities to move upwards. Overall a positive experience.

Pros

Staff discount, flexibility around hours.

Cons

Can be stressful

very busy, good money

managers are a joke, they say they give you training but you're basically thrown into the deep end. hours are way too long, they're so understaffed but don't do anything about it. they can change it but they choose not to
