Support Staff (Former Employee) - Killarney, County Kerry - 16 November 2022
Job itself is great, always meeting new clients, Travel expenses are terrible, with the rate of current inflation the expenses don't come close to covering costs of maintenance and driving between clients.

Management issues
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Clonmel, County Tipperary - 5 June 2021
The job itself is stressful enough without management deliberately making staffs working day harder. Alot of petty behaviour that's completely unnecessary.
Pros
Good wages good breaks
Cons
Long days, night shifts, management

I love the job I do looking after the elderly is such an enriching experience . Every day is different behind every older person's door is a story .
Health Care Assistant (Current Employee) - County Cork - 4 December 2017
The problem with being a healthcare assistant for the Hse out in the community is we work long days. Our service is in high demand in the morning up until lunch ,the afternoons not so much so in order for me to make a wage I go out again in the evening as this is also a time that's in demand . So if you can follow my drift I finish most days around three o clock but I am back out again for sixthirty so my time is spent watching the clock . Some of my colleagues are working 12 days with 2 days off then back into a 12 day cycle again in order to make a decent living hence my reason for looking elsewhere at this stage for regularity and security.
Pros
Looking after wonderful people
Cons
The long days to make up the hours, plus we spend a minimum of 30 minutes with some of the people we take care of, very few of us leave after 30 minutes, sometimes it's not possible and so that's our time we are giving .

Very good liason betwern management, staff and clients.
Home Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Limerick - 19 September 2017
For anyone trying to juggle home life and young children with a good career and excellent pay, this is a great position to hold. It is very well managed and making contact at base is generally very fast. Now each employee has a pre pay phone for making contact and calls concerning work and clients. Travel expenses are paid from the 1at to the 2 me client and so on. You can regulate your hours to blend with family life.
