Not a bad place to work, pity higher up management allow bullying otherwise would have been a good place to work

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Company is good to work with, allows bullying to happen without doing anything about it. Management live to favour a lot of people and if you not liked then you they will try run you out

Pros

Free lunches while in shift

Cons

Long hours and bullying

It’s okay

Honestly it’s okay! They don’t deal with complaints about customers very well so maybe keep that in mind! They’re okay to work with but it’s very tiring

Good benefits but management are terrible

Wetherspoons have good benefits for working with them but the management is terrible , they never go with the correct company policy , coming from me who was apart of the management and company for years , you are just a number in the company and high management can get away with anything if they hit hood sale targets and treat the staff really bad , hours are always taken and given , schedules change hours before shifts sometimes , there’s no life work balance with them at all , no thanks for any hard work , barely ever get that bonus they tell everyone they give every month , trust me they dont

Overworked staff and terrible hours

Every friday and saturday night the staff is completely overwhelmed at both bars, management very rarely gives days off and spends most workdays just sitting around in their office, customers are mostly alright though and some of the food is good

Traumatised

Wouldn’t wish my worst enemy to work here honestly it’s an absolutely mad place to work, all the staff are amazing but the managers need to cop on. If your interested in working in an environment similar to a secondary school you should apply!

Pros

Trauma bonding with staff

Cons

Endless hours, no social life, overworked, terrible management

Fun and relaxed

Good place to start working, offers good promotional and career opportunities. Not sure if the pay is all there but it’s above minimum wage by a small bit. Great team work environment, work-life balance and they are extremely flexible with rota can swap shifts or ask for days off before new rota is published.

Pros

Free lunch’s, good team work environment

Cons

Head office knit pick at everything

Very busy and stressful at times

I worked in Wetherspoons for 3 months and honestly wasn’t the best 3 months for me. The hours are way too long. I specifically told the person interviewing me that I plan to work part time but ended up working full time. The management is absolutely disappointing and have awful communication skills.

Pros

Free food Nice staff

Cons

Long hours

Stay away!

Constantly short staffed, hours being cut all the time but expected to work as many as 50 if needed, no thanks for the backbreaking work you do. Wages are very slightly higher than minimum wage but you earn every cent. Decent holidays and free on the job food but that’s about it. Chance to go further up the career ladder if you’re the right candidate but I personally don’t think it’s worth the stress of the overall job.

Not the worst place to start in the bar game

Good place to get experience but not to stay long-term. Management tend to give favourable treatment to staff who kiss up to them and are not the best to deal with.

Pros

Some good colleagues

Cons

Management not great, understaffed

depends what you are doing and with who.

some days its really bad and thers its okay. if the people you are working with is nice it helps. not great management and not very approachable. it gets really busy and just not the best

Pros

free food

Cons

closing late, transport after public transport stops

Stress isn’t worth it

The company have no loyalty to its management or staff. Just a number attitude. There are far more welcoming/nicer environments to work in out there.

Pros

The staff and the team

Cons

Expected to work every weekend. A lot of late nights. Huge demands from management above.

Management are nightmare to deal with

After working there for 2 years I have realised that the management team have no idea what they are doing and are only focused on profits and not on employees well-being.

Pros

Free lunch

Cons

Long hours, Constantly changing rules, No training, Threats of being sacked for minor incidents, Hitler would've done a better job as pub manager, Understaffed to keep sales looking higher, Managers do not know Irish working rights, Complaints are not kept anonymous, Constantly have employee files out in the office not locked away privately like they should be, Basically work here if you hate yourself enough to not be bothered by any of this

Fun for friends but thats about it, trash management

It was fun to meet new staff and the customers were mostly friendly but the management was extremely bad, high turnover rate and I understand why it was so high in the first

Pros

Free lunches

Cons

Management

Stressful

Worked in the kitchens as a ‘cook’. Had to sign a NDA before starting work so already not a great start. Witnessed things I could never repeat again. Hours were horrifically long and breaks were short.

Pros

Discounted food

Cons

Long hours, bad pay

Pub's work

The time there was very useful. There was chance to improve the English, make some hours , get new kitchen and bar skills, and learn about the Irish Life. Your workmates become your family with the time and the work on group Is essential there!

Pros

Free lunchs, flexibility, kitchen manager helpfully

Cons

Drunk customers

productive and get to meeet new people everyday

a typical day would be serving alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages and food. the staff make your day go by a lot easier the hardest part of the job was only when it got really busy and short on staff

Pros

Cons

I didn’t like working here because I always felt I was worked way more than I should have been, I felt like a slave and I don’t feel the pay is enough

Pros

Staff are friendly

Cons

Food, pay, managers, kitchen is too small, the alarm always going off at main door

Worst place I have worked, avoid

I worked in The Silver Penny in Dublin. I started as this bar first opened. It seemed very promising at first until a few weeks in. Management are unhelpful and never knows what is happening in their own pub. Staff members are under stress and often fight and bicker with each other. This leaves an awful environment when working there. The job works you to the bone, for just above minimum wage. I would never recommend this job to anybody. I left after about 3 months of working there and there were not many people left who had started with me. The high staff turnover rate says it all. The long hours are awful. You are expected to start at 4 pm and work till close, which is usually about 2/3 am. Management do not take into consideration other jobs or college. It's great to get bar experience and floor experience, however apart from that I see no benefit from working there.

Dont work in an English pub

Run like an uptight business office and not like any other pub in Ireland. Not enough staff for the job required and no bouncers for employee safety. Not a good bar to work in

Great Company

Overall this company is good to work for. There is so much opportunity to advance in a short amount of time. I had no experience starting off but was given full training, second to none, it was hands down the best training I have seen! Management in my pub could be a bit better, I feel problems should be dealt with more promptly instead of being left on the long finger.
