Part time being paid monthly is not very rewarding
Part time staff should be paid weekly and in the JD store I worked in it was not a busy shop and not enough hours where received by myself so not enough hours to keep me Interested

Bad Reputation is Understandable
The place has a bad reputation, which is understandable. Working in JD was the worst job I’ve had so far and definitely wouldn’t recommend it to anybody. The managers are rude and unprofessional. You are spoken to as if you’re incompetent and made feel stupid. You get given out to for the smallest things; like how pants are hung , and if you do something wrong it’s made a big ordeal of. Staff are seen as names on a sheet and managers will give you the cold shoulder and cut your hours if you have an appointment or need time off work.I came into work every day feeling on edge and got a headache every day for the first two weeks from worrying about what kind of mood management was going to be in. As far as I know, most of the other staff disliked it too and at least five people left while I was there (which wasn’t very long). The rota always came out last minute and hours were unpredictable. The only little bit of a positive from working here were the other staff members my age as we could go on lunch together and stuck together as most of us felt tense in the job and disliked it. To anybody who is thinking of applying here it isn’t worth the hassle to even suck it up for a temporary contract unless you’ve very very thick skin.

Awful management, toxic environment
After working in the company for years I’d seen a lot of different people pass through the job, but for some odd reason they really loved promoting those who were underaged/ inexperienced/ just plain daft. So it was an endless cycle of clowns being in mid management and totally mistreating staff that have been there 4 days and also those that have been there 4 years. Pay is terrible for what you have to deal with between customers and management. Only decent thing is it’s somewhat flexible for college. Just don’t let some of them know you’re in college otherwise they’ll treat you like you’re the scum of the earth. Some people that you work with are nice but it’s down to character

Toxic Environment
The only safe haven you had were your team mates, management were cliquey and had favourites. The workplace could get toxic real quick. Minimum pay work for maximum effort.

Stressful and fast paced
Since I was a seasonal worker it was expected that it was fast paced because it was a Christmas period but I was told that I was working in the women’s shoes department but I was working there ALONE for 2-3 hours while every other department had approx 4 people. I was VERY stressed because I had about 5-6 customers asking me for sizes all at once and the mangers could see I’m struggling but NO help was given. As I was going to collect shoes I notice the managers talking about me, my staff colleagues told me also that she heard them talking about me which put me under great pressure and in a worried state. This was on my mind the whole day. Other management were nice and abit helpful but they would rush through stuff with you if your stuck on something they would just quickly go through it and expect you to know it. My staff colleagues thought the same! Overall enjoyable part was my lunch break !!! As I got to have a little cry to myself knowing I’ve to go back out to the stressful environment. Also as I was collecting shoes the stock department are SHOCKING as the whole staff floor are waiting for shoes to come down and that leaves customers furious. So expect customers to give out to you saying your awful at this job and expect managers to talk about you.
