Ongoing pay issues
Information Developer/ Technical Writer (Former Employee) - Cork, County Cork - 11 May 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedThe pay is far below market rate and chances of promotion are slim to none. People only get promoted when someone quits (which doesn't exactly encourage people to stay). The people are nice and I'd recommend it to people starting out in a Technical Writing role, but you should leave after a year or two or you're wasting your time there.

No leadership, poor support, poor technical training
Project Engineer (Current Employee) - Dublin, County Dublin - 14 May 2022
Very stressful company to work for. The company is in a state of chaos with a serious lack of effective leadership at the top. They are obsessed with having all the works signed off but they don’t care if the projects are completed or even done correctly, get in “give it a bless” and get a docket signed and get out. They actively seek managers with no technical skills to “support” engineers. The service engineers are constantly getting complaints from customers because they can’t log fault calls, call centre can’t keep hold of staff, several great engineers have left because of this. The ADT Dublin office has so far lost 1 person every week in 2022, with less than 20% replacements coming in. Our training is abysmally poor, that budget is used to support the loss on installations. It’s only about shareholder returns and not about the customer. I and several others will be gone before the year end.

Insights into Johnson Controls
Areas for improvement
- Support from manager
- Energising work tasks
- Inclusive work environment
Stressful workplace
Engineer (Former Employee) - Dublin, County Dublin - 18 February 2022
Having worked in the fire & security industry for many years I thought a large company like ADT/Johnson Controls would be extremely well organised with regards to jobs, training & Work/life balance. I quickly found out that was far from the truth! I received no training and was given all the responsibility of ensuring jobs got over the line even when issues were out of my hands. I was promised Training & support but it never happened. The pay/benefits used to be in line with the best in the business but it has fallen way behind in recent times. A complete overhaul is needed in this business if they are going to retain any staff.
Pros
Plenty of overtime available
Cons
Long hours Long distance to jobs (cover whole country) Wages below average No Support or Training

Opportunity for leadership from Cork
Digital CX Solutions (Former Employee) - Cork - 15 April 2020
Johnson Controls is a company ripe with opportunity for change and the strong leadership of the team built out in Cork allows the opportunity to affect and deliver that change despite the historic US-focus in the business. It is hard, and requires a flexibility with US timezones to really make an impact, but ultimately rewarding.

Jobs at Johnson Controls
Company in Transitition
IT Manager (Current Employee) - Dublin - 31 May 2017
Basically the company is in a state of confusion caused by lack of effective leadership at the top. They are obsessed with having all control based out of Milwaukee, WI, but they have a very limited pool of qualified candidates there, and therefore are left with poor middle and in some cases higher level mgt. Since the take over of Tyco the work life balance has been really skewed in favor of work, and there is no end of this in sight. Also, there have been many job layoffs with rumors of more to come so job security is perceived as very low. The people that work there are very nice but they are not supported by mgt.

very productive and fun place to be.
Elect/Mech Technician (Current Employee) - IBM Campus , Damastown ind est, Mulhuddart, Dublin - 10 March 2014
first thing in the morning we would perform Plant Checks, checking all site plant is operational and rectify any faults as you go.I became proficient in CMMS based work and BMS operations.
Management kept to the management side of things as they were not technical, but very proficient in their role with the customer.
regarding co-workers , we pull together as a team and always help each other out , their was no real hard part of the job, as experience makes the job run smooth.
the most enjoyable part of the job was coming through the gates in the morning and looking forward to the day ahead.
Pros
free workwear, boots & tools.
Cons
no real cons.

What I learned at Johnson Controls
Accountant (Temp) - ME shared service center (Current Employee) - API world Trade Tower - 5 August 2013
I always wanted to grow in finance but due to different situations things never worked out. However, Johnson Controls gave me an opportunity to work with their AP team even when I had no experience in Accounts.
Although, my base in accounts was solid, to actually work on an ERP was a very different experience. Learned numerous things and below is a list.
- Accounting of Invoices
- How working capital gets effected
- Ageing Analysis
- Vendor Master Updation
- Vendor Account Reconciliation
