Good Salary but long hours
Project Manager Lidl (Current Employee) - Dublin - 18 April 2021
Pay is at the top level for Project Managers, however the hours to earn this mean that on a per hour basis you are no better than a regular store worker. Lack of holiday cover means that your tasks remain untouched while away and you are expected to spend as long as possible to catch up on this. Progression is good if you have joined through a graduate program, otherwise members of the team with years of knowledge are passed over.
Pros
Salary, gym on site
Cons
Long Hours, lack of opportunities

negative workplace, extreme pressure culture
Deputy Store Manager (Former Employee) - Mullingar, County Westmeath - 9 January 2021
constant pressure to work overtime for free, threatened job security, bullied staff into procedures that didn't benefit them. I would not recommend working here.
Pros
great salary
Cons
long hours, unnecessary pressure and negative reinforcement

Lack of communication
Customer Assistant (Current Employee) - Galway - 15 December 2020
I have never received a feedback on my work. I started working and I thought I was going to learn a little about everything and take turns in the tasks, but after 1 month they put me in the till and I couldn't get out of there and learn more things. They will not prepare the schedules for you in advance (they should give them 3 weeks in advance) but once I was only able to access my schedule a few days before and it was only for 1 week. So you can't make any plans or make doctor appointments if you need to. There's no communication. There are many bosses but none ever knows how to give you the information you need and hardly ever has time for it.
Pros
Salary
Cons
Lack of communication

Stressful and Bullying
Customer Assistant (Current Employee) - Dublin - 25 October 2020
Most of the staffs are bullying and demotivating. Always blames and compares with others. Even after your best of efforts they will say you are slow. Very difficult for new staffs.
Pros
Nothing much
Cons
Stress. Long hour, Bullying, Unsocial hours, lots of physical work and lifting

Jobs at Lidl
Surving at Lidl
Sales floor assistant (Former Employee) - Limerick - 25 August 2020
Do you enjoy working extremely erratic hours? Do you enjoy being treated like a real prisoner? Enjoy working long hours from early at 3.30am until evening and only leaving when told to, regardless of your set hours? Never receiving your overtime owed, break your spirit and say goodbye to your personal life and loved ones, join Lidls they will give you a futuristic slavery experience at your cost, and toss you out in the dirt when you are all burnt out,
Pros
You get a lunch break to rethink your lifes choices.
Cons
Whey to many hidden cons to explain, do not join Lidls, its not fair on you or your family.

Stressful. Expect workplace bullying, but okay if desperate for money.
Customer Assistant (Current Employee) - County Dublin - 5 August 2020
Lidl is okay if you are looking for a job that pays well as they do they pay quite well for retail and have decent pay increases. However, expect long hours, no talking on shifts, hours changed constantly with zero notice, weekly tests to remember a long list of PLUs, and a management approach that borders on mental bullying and abuse. Their approach is to simply throw you into the deep end and then complain if you can't swim. There are some nice staff, but sadly management really need actual training on how to treat their staff like people instead of dirt. Would recommend short-term while looking for a better job and to save some money, but certainly not as a long-term career.
Pros
Good pay and plenty of overtime
Cons
Very bad management; zero training; no social life

fast paced environment where you have to work every single minute
Duty Manager (Current Employee) - Tramore, County Waterford - 30 July 2020
You have to be good at almost every aspect of the job if you want to grow, you will be doing many tasks throughout the day, from cleaning and serving customers to filling out paperwork and answering incoming calls.
In the beginning, most of your time will be spent packing, restocking on shelves, and serving customers at the checkout.
The hardest part of the job is multitasking, sometimes you need to be in two places at the same time, but over time you get used to it. The nice part is getting your work done when you realize you've done your best to offer the best customer service in Lidl.
Pros
Flexible hours, high salary

Customer Assistant
Customer Assistant (Former Employee) - Buncrana, County Donegal - 10 September 2019
Only good thing about this company is the wages but you work for every penny that you earn as nothing is easy about working here. You have no life outside of lidl as your called in all the time for extra shifts to cover people. Managers could do with some basic training on how to actually treat their staff with some respect rather than treat them like the dirt on their shoes. Being tore to shreds for simple errors and never praised. Mental bullying at its finest

Good pay, tough environment
Customer Assistant (Former Employee) - Athy, County Kildare - 9 August 2019
The company offers a fairly good rate, but the work is demanding. Non-social working hours (5am -11pm) and days (closed only 4 days a year) and unpleasant customers.

Customer focused hands on operation
Manager (Former Employee) - Kerry - 7 August 2019
Spent 5 years as a manager with Lidl. The job was never boring and days were long but time passed very quickly. The job was straight forward and the lidl systems were easy to follow and implement. Staff recruitment was difficult at times and the staff turnover was quite high as was staff absenteeism. The salary was good and morale was good amongst staff and management as you were working with small teams. On the negative side , experienced managers had to put up with 2 to 3 visits a week from very inexperienced area managers some of whom had never stepped foot in a retail store prior to joining Lidl. Some of these area managers would make demands and to do lists which couldn't have been done with 20 staff never mind 5 staff . Apart from some of the area managers it was a good experience.
Pros
Salary, systems
Cons
Inexperienced area managers with no concept of how to help and motivate staff and management.

.its not great working for this company
Customer Assistant (Former Employee) - Athy, County Kildare - 10 July 2019
I don't want to review lidl, terrible at staffing and senior management don't step up, many other companies offer higher wages too. Also it's more of a work your way up to nothing kinda iob, basic contracted hours are only 20hours a week over 7 days .....
