So much to learn but lack of management support
Customer Assistant (Current Employee) - Dublin - 28 March 2018
Work can be very physical and stressful. New staff are expected to have the same outcome as the older staff. You have to be fully flexible to do the job from doing till, packing, baking and merchandising.

Great salary and benefits, no work-life balance
Deputy Store Manager (Former Employee) - Cork - 1 February 2018
If you are willing to put your life on hold and earn some good money this is the job for you!
Long hours at times unsociable, extremely physical workload in somewhat unrealistic time constraints

Good way of thinking bad implementation
Customer Assistant (Former Employee) - County Cork - 16 December 2017
Pays very good per hour but only managerial positions are on full time contract. Staff usually get a 10-30 hours contract. Starters on lower hours contract. Hours could vary from very short days to very long days. There could be very low hours one week and very high another. Gets unsocial able at times also no job security as most people can't make a living on 10-20 hours a weeks.
As much as it looks like they have a good system for training out of a few day not much training provided. New staff almost immediately expected to hit same targets as staff who are there for years. Staff are expected to follow strict guidelines but none is trained enough to know what they are exactly.
The targets are reachable but in an ideal world's ideal scenarios but as we don't live in an ideal world it makes them borderline unrealistic therefore most days things fall behind or done quantity over quality way.
Staff are good even management only few exceptions can't really complain about them but it seems like due to targets set on the edge of possibility you can get told off anytime for something. It seems that Management as it goes down from top to bottom everyone tells off everyone and no appraisals given which seems to be Lidl's culture in Ireland.
I think its great that you work harder and in faster pace while you have to watch quality and customer service as well but due to the above culture it gets out of hand and causes to much stress.
Advise for top management don't forget pushing for the extra income in short term could cause loss in the long run. Give lieu way for unforeseen -
Pros
Salary, people are nice
Cons
Lack of training, stress, lack of appraisal

Extremely hard, draining, no life work balance
Deputy Store Manager (Current Employee) - Ireland - 20 July 2017
Very hard, extremely long hours, all managers are contracted for 48h and are often expect to commute long distances on top. Plus many work more off the clock. Culture is awful, there are small changes in right direction being attempted but not much real difference made, Most people are there for money only. Managers are put in golden handcuffs, being paid well, but with their confidence being crushed on a daily basis. Many of them are of foreign origin and dont have suffiecient language skills or education to seek good employment elsewhere, which perfectly suit the company.
After few years many of them become sick, back injuries are super common, no suprise when people work 12h shifts every day.
Pros
good wage and benefits
Cons
everything else

Stay Away.
Sales Operations Manager (Former Employee) - Mullingar Region - 28 January 2017
I worked as an SOM for 4months and it's the worst job I have ever had. Employees for the most part hate working there and are only there for the money which creates a very poor working environment. Money is the only good thing although when you work out the hourly pay for an SOM it's only €13.73 an hour on account of the crazy hours at €50,000 per annum.
Obviously this is the starting wage and your Salary increases if you can stick it which most don't.
I would advise to stay away!!
Pros
Good Salary.
Cons
Insane hours, poor working atmosphere, bad executive management.

Hard Work and
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Cork - 4 October 2016
A challenging job in retail due as you do quite a bit of everything from operating checkouts to stocking shelves and to be done within certain speeds but I learned a lot about the importance of teamwork and communication throughout my time.Enjoyed working there, learned a lot of new skills.I learned a lot working in Lidl as they train you on all aspects of the store including cash handling, baking, cleaning, stock take, inventory , dealing with customers and working as a member of a driven team. Its time to move.
Unfortunately often got phone calls from management to come to work on days off every week and if I had other plans and refused hours would be cut the week after to advance in this company, often had no breaks in a shift this including a 12 hour shift. No time for private live.!!
Lidl breach Health and Safety Regulation regarding to employee and his/her ergonomic friendly place to work.
Pros
Good Salary Pension Plan Medical Insurance
Cons
No Life Balance

Exposure to alot and work extremely hard
Middle manager (Former Employee) - Kildare - 21 January 2016
Culture is very productivity focused which goes beyond a high performing team. Those that are high performers are the bench mark for the average rather than seen as an over achiever. High customer service and high productivity also do not go together.
Career progression and advancement is definitely a huge part of Lidl and any employee who is Career hungry and wants to progress can easily do so. A lot of training is provided however embedment of training could be improved.
Salary and benefits are exemplary and employees are well taken care of in that respect.
Hardest part of the job was dealing with senior managers who were not personable. Most enjoyable part was seeing employees achieve their goals.
Pros
Salary, Benefits, colleagues, professional exposure, career progression
Cons
Long hours, expectations, lack of people awareness
