Stressful depending on the manager
Customer Assistant (Former Employee) - Dublin, County Dublin - 29 June 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedI’ve worked here for 3 years, every manager has a different style of doing things. Some managers will try to get you to do different jobs around the shop and others will leave you on the till for your entire 10 hour shift. It’s an extremely fast paced job and it’s learn on the spot. I didn’t receive much training and was put on the till on my first day with no help. The money is good but it can be a toxic environment. Most stores will provide the rota for 3 weeks in advance but in my store the manager left the rota till the very last minute each week only posting it on the Thursday for the following week. My manager would also ignore all texts so communication was difficult.
Pros
Good money
Cons
Long hours, not guaranteed shifts

Surving at Lidl
Sales floor assistant (Former Employee) - Limerick - 25 August 2020
Do you enjoy working extremely erratic hours? Do you enjoy being treated like a real prisoner? Enjoy working long hours from early at 3.30am until evening and only leaving when told to, regardless of your set hours? Never receiving your overtime owed, break your spirit and say goodbye to your personal life and loved ones, join Lidls they will give you a futuristic slavery experience at your cost, and toss you out in the dirt when you are all burnt out,
Pros
You get a lunch break to rethink your lifes choices.
Cons
Whey to many hidden cons to explain, do not join Lidls, its not fair on you or your family.

Total lack of respect for employees and blatent disregard tobtge employess life outside of the workplace
Customer Assistant (Former Employee) - Ballina, County Mayo - 12 August 2020
Good pay that's the only positive, rest are all negatives ,working 6,8 or even 10 hours without a break then told to take your break when you finished your shift, and you never have a finish time ,you get to finish work when you are told to go home, will leave you sitting on till for 8 hours straight . Will give you no protection from customers you as the employee will always be wrong. Constantly
Pros
Pay
Cons
No breaks no finish time no requested days off spoken down to by manager

Stressful. Expect workplace bullying, but okay if desperate for money.
Customer Assistant (Current Employee) - County Dublin - 5 August 2020
Lidl is okay if you are looking for a job that pays well as they do they pay quite well for retail and have decent pay increases. However, expect long hours, no talking on shifts, hours changed constantly with zero notice, weekly tests to remember a long list of PLUs, and a management approach that borders on mental bullying and abuse. Their approach is to simply throw you into the deep end and then complain if you can't swim. There are some nice staff, but sadly management really need actual training on how to treat their staff like people instead of dirt. Would recommend short-term while looking for a better job and to save some money, but certainly not as a long-term career.
Pros
Good pay and plenty of overtime
Cons
Very bad management; zero training; no social life

Slave job
Warehouse Operative (Former Employee) - Mullingar, County Westmeath - 1 May 2020
Bad hours you'll be kept on the back shift for a very long time and mostly on one section there is no rotation at all which is stupid. There is not enough pickers so sometimes you might even do 14 hour shift finish at 2-3 at night and tht might continue for the whole week when business is bussy.

Recommended company for retail career
Deputy Store Manager (Former Employee) - Castleblayney, County Monaghan - 28 March 2020
Excellent company for internally training their staff. Hours can be long when in management but well worth it. Highly pressurised at times but like any retail job this passes.

Great fast paced company for career oriented people
Project Manager (Former Employee) - IE - 25 March 2020
Great fast paced company for career oriented people. You get to work with most departments and are given a high level of responsibility. I would recommend it for those that are very career oriented.

Jobs at Lidl
Okay ish
Warehouse Operative (Former Employee) - Mullingar, County Westmeath - 12 March 2020
Great culture and fun between colleagues. Working hours were a bit ridiculous, i.e. 1pm-11pm but sometimes you suddenly get asked (an hour prior to the end of your shift) go up to 1 am or even 3 am during Xmas period.
Decent pay when compared to similar companies

Productive workplace
Store Supervisor (Former Employee) - Waterford, Ireland - 10 February 2020
I was working in company for 9 years and got different experience in company working in different stores, education and different positions. In Lidl they have strong management which have to meet their KPIs every week, these leads to increased performance and competitive salaries. Its a big teamwork with good atmosphere at work. Management supports you in different aspects in your life, including training, education, preferable working shifts and career opportuinities.

Have to be ready to work different shifts and weekends, every day/ week is different. Fastpaced, but rewarding. It's very hard to find a job as well paid as in Lidl.

Robotic
Deputy Store Manager (Former Employee) - Tuam, County Galway - 13 November 2019
Very hard work, management stick where they are with not much movement so only able to progress when they decide to leave. Pays very well for both staff and management but work life balance suffers because of it.

Disrespectfull to individuals
Sales Assistant/Cashier (Former Employee) - Mullingar, County Westmeath - 27 September 2019
Managers have only one goal, it is to acomplish sale targets. They do not care about their working colegues, and do not respect private time. Working rosters are made with no sense to humanity. There is one group of people who are privileged in company, people with Lithuanian passport.
Training proces is bad, they just need people to work as numbers, not humans.

Great place to work
Deputy Manager (Current Employee) - Limerick - 24 September 2019
Place where you will find out what you are able to do, and what challenges you can manage. Place where you survive or leave. Only strongest and hard working stays.
