Stressful depending on the manager

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
I’ve worked here for 3 years, every manager has a different style of doing things. Some managers will try to get you to do different jobs around the shop and others will leave you on the till for your entire 10 hour shift. It’s an extremely fast paced job and it’s learn on the spot. I didn’t receive much training and was put on the till on my first day with no help. The money is good but it can be a toxic environment. Most stores will provide the rota for 3 weeks in advance but in my store the manager left the rota till the very last minute each week only posting it on the Thursday for the following week. My manager would also ignore all texts so communication was difficult.

Pros

Good money

Cons

Long hours, not guaranteed shifts

Always kept busy

Worked in Lidl for about a year, your always kept busy time goes really fast. Management were really nice and hardworking. Only thing was the hours, either having to work too early or too late, mostly at Christmas and summer.

Good pay, tough environment

The company offers a fairly good rate, but the work is demanding. Non-social working hours (5am -11pm) and days (closed only 4 days a year) and unpleasant customers.

Hardship

If you're not polish, you're an outsider. Never trained. phone calls and texts everyday to cover shifts from staff that called in 'sick'. Often ignored by managers for days if i didn't cover these shifts. No work life balance as i worked every weekend for several months. Five 5 o'clock morning starts in a row. Transferred me to a different store further away from i live without asking.

Untrustworthy management culture

Untrustworthy management culture. Work/life balance is non existent. Staff members constantly walking on eggshells. Main objective is to reach unrealistic targets at all costs. Employees come second.

Stay away

Very long hours and you are expected to work with the same place throughout your shift. Constantly under stress because that is the way they operate. Very high staff turnover because of that.

Expect too much from you

Long shifts , never get out on time , left on tills for 10/12 hours a day not very friendly , great wage is probably the only good thing about working for them

Pros

Great pay

Cons

Long hours, never out on time

busy environment

Typical day at work is very monotony, specially if you have to only picking products for 8-10 hours, and if you work hard supervisors give you more hard work. Advise- don't show them you are very hard worker from first day, beacause they will use you, think about your health ( even if you are strong, after few months picking, problems with back will start).

Pros

free coffee and tea, free fruits

Cons

don't pay for breaks

Used to be a great workplace but has been on decline year on year

Initially, it was a good company to work for but it's been losing it's appeal and with no improvements in the work and practises, it can only get worse. The hours are between 6-10/12hrs long with some longer hours if there are international store visits or inventory prep to be done. It is a good place for students who don't mind working, lazy staff aren't very much welcome or tolerated. If you're lucky to work in a busy store then the time flies but there is always something to do.

Pros

Able to have flexible hours if you're studying

Cons

Long hours, Always pressured to impress or do more with no concrete promise of a promotion, Unpleasant work culture.

Hard work - High Salary

Not everyones cup of tee but for someone who is willing to graft, particularly during the early stages of their career, working for this firm can be financially rewarding. Not much room or scope for role change at my time of working here, though I wouldn't be surprised if this has changed for the better. procedure-driven organisation so very little scope for doing things your own way. The tried and tested method is what is enforced. If grocery retail is your thing, then this could be the right firm for you.

Good for young people without family

Long hours, very high expectations, no respect for your work. If you look for experience and you have no family or personal life - it place for you. Good salary and good benefits.

Awful work environment

Do yourself a favour and apply for a different job. I can't understand how people keep saying that the pay is good, when any Job would have good pay if you are in there 10 hours a day. You don't get paid for breaks, so if you want to get yourself a decent wage be prepared to do 11/12 hours of hard work 6 days a week. Also be prepared for the most complicated pay structure when you start. First month is only contract hours, so for a full month work you get 800euro. Absolute joke

Pros

None

Cons

Long hours/no h+s

Pretty OK

Decent place to work, management opportunities always available so got chance for advancement. Not very rewarding work though, long hours with no social life to be expected.

Okay wirkplace

Decent place to work management isn’t the best, sometimes work/life balance can be overwhelming as you can work up to 3 12 hour shifts per week........

Hard and Unsafely

Hard job physically and mentally. Some of colleagues are very hard working people, but not treated equally. Shifts are made inappropriate way, as two members of staff staying on their own in store, in very busy hours at the evenings, it makes very difficult to take a break. Customer service suffers because of that seriously. Thefts increased since 2 people are working at the late nights. Very hard to be listened.

Pros

rate per hour

Cons

Extremely high pressure, lack of trainings, lack of management, hard to take breaks

Terrible place to work

Easy to get injured, high pallets, loads of straps, plastics, pieces of wood, cardboards on the floor, they have “pick rates” “targets” which is 250 boxes per hour average, you cannot reach them using manual handling so you have to bend your back not your knees, most of the times problems to receive holiday pay or sickness pay, lots of strange changes in working time every week, never know what time you finish, only know what time you start,in the event of fire they not evacuate people but send them to pick in different area of warehouse,i wouldn’t recommend it to anybody

Pros

None

Cons

Long hours, bad management

Cons

Extremely hard physical & mentally draining work with little support and little or no thanks

Prepare to work long crazy hours, accept liability for unrealistic targets not being met, KPIs not being reached due to stock you didn’t order being forced on you & your poor team calling sick from stress & physical injuries due to poor workplace compliance - falls in bakery freezers & warehouses are common due to over crowding due to too much stock allocated and pressure to rush due to unrealistic times given for workloads . Pregnant girls being forced to pack non food and work in bakery freezer by uncaring managers and area managers bullying managers to the point of stress & depression. Of course I was lucky to have plenty who were honest & had respect for me but there is one or two known for there consistent ill treatment but because they reach targets & win prizes nothing is done. If you want great salary with little to no private life this is the job for you. You lose your spirit and your soul - a little piece every day. If I wasn’t lucky enough to have such great staff I’d have left long ago. The workers are the pride of that place & work so hard. The higher up the food chain you get the nastier you get. Once you reach your sell by date or question anything they force you out by any means. Managers clock for 48 hours but work 60+. Company ignores this until they want rid of manager then they threaten manager with documentation of the excess hours being worked until they leave. Funnily the area managers also do this as do all managers in the company when it suits them they turn a blind eye. Also if you are lucky enough to be related to anyone in headoffice you can -

Pros

Great salary, met some fabulous people, managed some great teams

Cons

No life
