Since joining MDE as an electrical installer, I have been promoted to a supervisor. There is excellent scope for progression, attractive salary with bonuses. Excellent firm to work for.
MDE is by far the worst company I've ever worked for in my 20 years experience as a electrician. The job is underpaid union rates but they make it sound better by offering extra jobs for there own benefit on your time noting challenging about the job for an electrician more like a robot running around trying to fit as meny esb smart meters as you can do this job long enough you would forget your an electrician. There vans are equipped with tracking devices that monitors everything once key in ignition. Its a family run business witch Hr and supervisers are the worst of the bunch
This is a good company to work for. You are given the opportunity and space to work on your own or as part of a team. There are opportunities available to develop your skills once you’ve shown your potential and willingness to progress ie from field operations to office.
Job security, being part of a team, innovative systems
Nothing to date

you get kitted out with all new tools and equipment for the job, company van fuel card etc. Office are helpful in making sure you have everything you need. There are a lot of audits in the first part of of the job but these get less, good company with safety and quality being no 1
Audits at start
boys have been giving of about this company but those guys haven’t met the high standards expected. KPI’s are clear from day 1 and if you do your days work and dont take the hand you’ll not hear from the office. Supervisors are sound and good vibe with team at toolbox talks
Supervisor support on ground
managers came out to field to deliver news that esb have delayed work in certain areas. Frustrating but at least theres still plenty of work and respect that the news was delivered face to face rather than by email like most companies,
communication with field
Good training, we were in Portlaoise and the other two contractors on the project weren’t as well trained as we were, good support in classroom and on ground, you never feel alone when working in the field. You never hear the end of safety and quality!
Family owned Company, Good Career opportunities, fast paced environment within a growing company. work on own initiative, but there is a good team if help is needed. received solid training before going out into field. Trainer was very good and made sure you knew everything on handheld before going out.
For me, this was the worst business I've been apart of. Family run, with , in my opinion, an owner with a very poor, old fashioned "my way or the highway" business approach that discounts the experience of others. Meetings are called without notice, answers expected without prior preparation. Company questionnaires carried out by the owner face to face with employees that makes it uncomfortable to suggest change. Would recommend you consider anywhere else.
Almost everything unfortunately.
