The job is not as easy as it seems. I did receive very good training. The job is physically hard but not actually difficult. You need to leave the rooms spotless or there will be complaints. If anyone calls sick the rooms they were assigned to do will then get assigned between whoever is on for the day. Obviously do not take this job if you don’t like cleaning because you will do a ton of it.
i worked at the leisure centre in midelton park and as a worker i felt unappreciated and overworked. A typical day would be mainly cleaning i was only able to practice my skills on a very limited basis as a PT/fitness instructor. Me and a colleague cleaned to a high standard but the workers in the lesuire centre were lazy and expected other people to do there job for them. Management was rarely seen and any conversation that was spoken between other leisure attendants was repoted back to management. there are good workers in the hotel and there was nice people such as a the members that i went above and beyond for but ultimately it was let down by poor management decisions and poor mainteance. As a worker i wish i was supported more and wish there was a better culture inside there, there was a lack of team work and lack of communication between the team, and people that were in only a few days complained and did very little to fix any problems or contribute to the day to day jobs. the members deserve a lot more and there needs to be a review on the running of the centre. there are some positives like customer service training. they adversited a family like culture within there team but all it was was snitching, people doing half a job and people not having your back or supporting you or giving a hand and when you speak with authority people like do a job they get offended because they dont know a hards days work
Very strange work culture with bossy employees and managers who can make the job harder if you refuse to suck up to them (employees incldued). Also no free lunches or anything like what other hotels offer
Worked here for years and I made a lot of good friends here. Worked in all departments. Left because I felt the time was right to move on and get experience somewhere else though I still miss it there.
Good place to gain hospitality experience in all Departments of a Hotel.
Talbot group really looks after its employees.
If you are willing to put in the work , its a great place for career progression.
