I had great experience at Symantec until last year. It started with Greg Clark our Ex-CEO leaving the company and they brought Rick Hill to split and sell the company into pieces. They sold the main core parts along with the Enterprise devision sale and renamed the company as NortonLifeLock. Currently, we operate as a platform company providing just the licensing and UI layer.

The current middle level management does not have any clue on what to do next and trying to save each other by projecting work to upper management that is not realistic. The Engineers are trying to leave and it is bring down the morale of the teams as no work is being done.
Pros
Work Life Balance
Cons
No direction

Used to be an excellent company to work for. Worked in a team where there was plenty of opportunity to evaluate and use new tools and technologies.

Good perks, work-life balance, culture and people. But management missteps has led to a downfall of the company.

Symantec has some amazing security technology to work on.

There are tremendous opportunities to learn and grow skills at Symantec.

However, they are worried about an activist investor takeover, and so they are fighting to cut costs and shave margins to boost investor returns. This means that they are not prioritizing their stellar work force, and have instituted a pay freeze for the last 3 years. Time to look elsewhere.
Pros
Good technology
Cons
Company-wide pay freeze for the last 3 years

Open minded good experience with multiple sites collaborating. Then came the change, all upper managers were fired and an new crew arrived. Well chaos and bad designs were a part of the "new wave."

Symantec had a great working environment. I enjoyed working there and will miss the people, the work, and the culture.

It is unfortunate that we had to leave but it was company business decision

Symantec offered me a great opportunity to learn the tricks of the trade involving shrink wrapped product development. Working there also made me learn the importance of thinking quality as a before instead of after thought in application development.

I worked on the same product as previous to the Veritas/Symantec split. It was a good experience, with some excellent people in a stable company. I was very happy with the time I spent under Symantec.
