Fast-paced and fun place to work

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Still a fun place to work but become quite intense working there in recent years. You'll learn a lot if going in there in a junior level as a lot of quite experienced people working there. Decent culture and lots of opportunities in the US market in coming years

Great place to work

Paddy Power was a great place to work, with brilliant co workers. There are great opportunities to move along the career ladder and also great opportunities for pay increases.

Worker

There is no support from anyone in Paddy Power. The management are to old fashion and set in there ways and are straight out bullies. They have taken most of the bonuses away and give you targets that there is no chance reaching. Some lovely workers met there but no one stays long enough because they are forced out.

Good place to work if you're in the right shop!

Paddy Power can be a great place to work if you make it into the right shop. They differ so much depending on customer footfall, management and location. So no review can be considered 100% reliant and I can only speak from my own experience. Pros: Customer culture - if you're the type of person that greets people with a smile every day and gets to know your customers then it can be a very positive working environment. Flexibility - while you need to be flexible to work any days, it is nice to have some week days off to run errands that you can't run over the weekend. Similarly, even though shifts are long, it means you can get your hours covered in three or four days in the week and might get three or four days off. Salary - Salary is decent. Everyone starts on minimum wage but there is opportunity to progress. In-house hiring - PP advertise positions in house and are big on hiring shop staff for the "big jobs" in head office. Cons: In-House Hiring - because PP hire in-house, sometimes people begin jobs that they're not qualified for. This is particularly evident in the helpdesk (where you ring when there's a problem with a docket ie: no result, not settling, etc) - some of these people have ZERO product knowledge and often they will tell you they can't help. Management - In PP, people are promoted to management positions based on time served, not qualification or experience. There are so many shop managers that have no managerial qualities, are computer illiterate (ironically) and there seems to be no plans to upskill them regularly. Breaks - non -

Pros

flexibility

Cons

bad management

Horrible work environment

Since the merger between Paddy Power and Betfair, the culture that has emerged is horrible. People are only seen as resources and there is no investment in them anymore. The workload is punishing. Decisions are made by upper management with no engagement with those actually doing the work or speaking to the customers. There is no work/life balance and all the talent is leaving the company.

Pros

Subsidised canteen

Cons

Everything else

Fun workplace

High level of work life balance with a lot of benefits and the culture of the firm is brilliant. Management is filled with highly trained and well balanced professionals.

Fun, exciting but at times lacked soul

There is a big effort to put emphasis on a 'start up' culture within the company. Slogans such as 'Relentless Will to Win' were common. While this contributed to a fun, exciting atmosphere to work in, at times it came across as quite shallow. There was some license to innovate and pitch new ideas but only if you could be sure there was a surefire efficiency or profit to be gained from doing so.

Great place to work if you fit the culture

With aggressive culture and high pressure to perform, this is not the company for the faint of heart. Very fast paced, and a true meritocracy. Great place to learn digital early in your career.

All good

Paddy Power has been hiring a lot in the past year (as well as high skilled people leaving) as consequence of impressive growth. However the company is struggling to acquire a more international mind set. High pressure, little recognition and a lot of internal Politics. Career advancement: being Irish is a strong plus.

Pros

Interacting with the public

Cons

Difficult hours

Great place to work

The teams in PPB are probably the best part of the company! You always feel like part of a family and there is certainly a sense of everyone working towards a common goal. This has become less evident over the past while The role I work in is challenging and fast paced - you are continuously challenged.

Pros

Excellent teams, really smart people and fun environment

Cons

Has become bureaucratic

fun place to work

Paddy Power is an excellent company to work for, they try fit your hours around any restrictions you may have, staff are a pleasure to work with, some great advancements for someone interested in moving up through the bookies. Hardest part is the repetitive tasks but the customer are lovely and friendly

Pros

A normal day in Paddypower

Nothing is typical about working in Paddypower, the staff and customers have a great relationship.Upper management really understand that it is the staff that make Paddypower, they believe in the staff and give us a lot of leeway. When your promoted to management you get a lot of support and advice, its a fast paced business so you learn very quickly. the most enjoyable of the job is the unexpected comments and praise you get from your customers.

Exciting and dynamic

A typical day at this office consisted of excellent customer service and a great sense of humour. I learned a lot about behaviour, respect and customer service. The management were excellent, helpful and adventurous. My co-workers were the best bunch of varied people any employee could ask for. The hardest part of the job was leaving. The most enjoyable part of this job were the customers and the staff.

Pros

Great environment

Cons

Unexlained/unacceptable balances

Not Recommended

Paddy Power has been hiring a lot in the past year (as well as high skilled people leaving) as consequence of impressive growth. However the company is struggling to acquire a more international mind set. High pressure, little recognition and a lot of internal Politics. Career advancement: being Irish is a strong plus.People stay as much as they can and then leave.

Pros

modern headquarter, average salaries, quite central location, canteen ( you pay for)

Cons

a lot of politics, old core irish management, high pressurised, easy trigger (firing people), being irish strong advantage
