Great training opportunities, lovely team work environment in the salon I worked in. Great working with luxury products for colouring and styling , everything at your finger tips.

Pros

Training is great, and you become so close with your fellow staff members

Cons

Pay not great for the work you do, hours not flexible, not enough time given for you clients

Awful place to work

Management are dreadful. They will work you to the bone if they see an opportunity to earn money. Lunches are non-existent when busy. No sick pay. Don't bother trying to get time off. Holidays are a joke you have to take them on block weeks at a time rather than one or two days here and there. You work off commission so if salon is quiet you're not eating that week! A complete joke of a company! They deserve to be pulled up on how badly they treat staff!! Do not attempt to work here!!

Pros

None

Cons

Stressful, terrible pay, no benefits no sick pay, no time off for events.

Friendly and progressive

Had to leave due to health issues but the Galway salon is one of a kind - very friendly girls and management to work with and always opportunities to do better, the training from Peter Mark alone is outstanding across all boards. Worked there for over a year and enjoyed every minute of it

Pros

Great management, friendly staff and clients, day flies by

Cons

On your feet all day

Loved Working for Peter Mark

Worked there for sometime as Salon Coordinator/Receptionist in Galway. Fast paced environment but absolutely loved it. The day flies by, great music on, friendly clients and lovely staff. I was shocked reading the reviews here as there is just as many pros as there is cons no more than any job. Yes I worked more then expected, yes sometimes I had to stay behind by 10/15 minutes but management was just as good to me as I was to them. Really good opportunities to progress within the company too which I thought was great. If I was back living in Ireland I would not hesitate going back working for Peter Mark.

In my opinion

They see most staff especially salon coordinators as totally disposable, the money is ok not great! No paid sick leave or maternity, don’t expect to get a Saturday off if needed, they want you to take a weeks holiday off in order to have Saturdays off.Your expected to go to different salons to work at a drop of a hat and work extra hours, they don’t pay any extra for overtime! Most new staff start on relief been just filler in around whatever salon your needed, where nobody has the time for you because they know u may only be there for one day. They have different rules for different people. Only a handful of realistic thinking managers in the whole company! Your punished for been sick

Stay clear

I loved hairdressing and was so excited about going to work in one of the most recognised companies, but I was degraded from day 1 by staff and management and HR didn’t do much to help. The training in the college is amazing though I can’t fault that. my own manager told me I can’t be a good hairdresser even though I’ve worked in award winning salons with no complaints ever. My manager was the worst one. My mental health deteriorated and has been affected since. Anxious with all my jobs and I’m very distanced when it comes to making friends in work now

Professional and productive workplace. It was generally pleasant environment to work at.

The salon is well organized and professionally managed. The working environment is generally friendly. The staff is well trained and highly skilled. The salon is well equipped, clean and well organized.

If I could give it a zero, I would

I’ve never met so many people in my life who want you to be upset and unsuccessful. Breaks are a joke, either constantly interrupted, or not taken at all. Constant patronising and harassment from salon managers and upper management. Zero thanks for your hard work, and working past what you get paid for. Threats to fire you or write you up if you make a mistake. Every single person I’ve worked with there has cried once or more. We were bullied and threatened constantly. This is not a salon, it’s a cult.

Pros

You can leave for a better job

Cons

Everything

Dead end job

Worked as a stylist here for a 3 years , loved the staff but very poor management, overbooked , never got my breaks , unrealistically high targets. Lowest pay I have received as a stylist . During 3 years the only course I received was a shampoo course ! Had to pay for all my own education. No job perks like healthcare or pension or career advancement. A disgrace to the industry , no

Pros

None except nice staff

Cons

Pay, hours, breaks, management

Fast paced busy environment saloon coordinator

you will be required to be at the salon at half 8 (not paid until 9) to open up. A day to day varies in duties, you will be greeting clients making clients tea or coffee, checking stock, completing orders. You could be required to shampoo clients and take off colour, while managing the desk and clientele coming into the salon. You are legally by law required to get a 15 minute coffee break and a 1 hour lunch break. Good luck I’ve had days where I haven’t eaten until 4 or later, and it’s rarely ever an hour. Any issues you raise to management are brushed under the carpet. Company benefits rarely applied to salons outside of Dublin.

Pros

Fast paced environment. Staff are like family

Cons

Long hours. Disneyland ?
