I worked at Sky handling for a little over 2 years and in my time I made some amazing friends and amazing memories. The staff where nothing short of amazing and make you feel very welcome. The sense of comradery amongst the ramp guys was second to none and nobody was ever left feeling left out. The work itself is hard and I mean physically demanding, back breaking and exhausting. You will load on average 50-120 bags per flight and with each bag weighting up to 32kg ( Excluding cargo up to 150kg) you really don't need a gym. Now onto the negatives. many times the organization of the place left a lot to be desired, there where shifts i would work over 9 hours and not get a break due to lack of staff and flight schedules. There are alot of people within the company who like to play the boss when they are the same level as you and many times I witnessed heated arguments between staff and management due to lack of communication. Often times due to staff shortages there would be flights left unattended meaning you would literally be running from flight to flight with no break and often time no equipment ready for the flight further adding to the stress. You social life would often take a hit as shifts start as early as 4am and finish as late as 1am , many many many times i would be rostered to finish at 1am and be expected back into work at 11am which was just not enough time to rest and by the end of the working week you would be too tired to do anything. Wages where low considering the work being done and there was the odd occasion when wages where incorrect and you would have - 


Great workforce, no two days the same, lots of downtime between flights at times, very easy once you learn the ropes


Long hours, low pay, questionable management decisions, overworked at times, rarely get a break, weekends off don't exist

Good place to start an aviation career

I have worked in Sky Handling for roughly 5 and a half years.You need to be prepared to work 3ams when taking this job. I’ve loved this job since I started. It’s fun, every day is different. Going between check in and boarding time goes quick as your not stuck behind a desk all day. Being in the company so long I can say management and HR extremely supportive when needed. If you love what you do and work hard it’s very easy to move up. I started as a Passenger Service Agent and a year later I was a Lead Agent. I am now a Supervisor and hoping to progress further.The colleagues are the best. You meet some amazing people here and everyone supports each other.Always extra shifts available if you want to work extra and very easy to swap with a colleague if you need a day off.

Exciting, Ever-changing, Safety Critical, Positive & Uniquely Challenging

I have been happily working at SHP for the past 3 Yrs/ 5 months. I have started as junior Aircraft Service Agent loading and offloading luggages, driving equipment and operating machineries around the aircraft. The learning is gradual and the "core Team " is made up of long terms lads who are willing to help you in anything, if you show integrity, good work ethic and a genuine attitude in being part of the Team. I have been trained consistently to enhance my skills and can now pick an infinite numbers of career opportunities. I always choose the ramp as it is the most amazing, positively crazy and exciting ( hard core ) environment at the airport! I am now Team Leader and love raising to the top and availing of even more opportunities to choose amongst different roles and shift patterns. Still Love the Ramp! lolI work on earlys only. Starting between 330am and finish around 1230. ( this can become a longer shift during busy times) During the recovery we have had 15 months of critical bouncing back, where we worked in extremely challenging circumstances. The managers are incredibly lovely. Friendly HR and Duty Managers who are great crack and are very helpful where they can.During busy time you are required to stay longer to support the team. This job is not for everybody. It's extremely physical and it's outdoors - all weather conditions! It is rough! The company provide uniforms, boots, hear defenders and all safety PBE's. You must definitely be a fit person able to lift heavy and continuously in awkward positions inside the belly of the aircraft. It's dirty, wet & very demanding -

Stressful environment

Prior to COVID the workplace was grand, but since then this past summer the amount of stress was unfathomable with severe staff shortage along with the busiest summer ever of 2022. You'd essentially be covering the roles of 2 or 3 people, without the extra pay for the added workload. Additionally, people didn't care how much stress you're under while they took staff away from your work area so they themselves had less stress to deal with despite having many more people there already.The people I worked with were a pleasure to be around with, but management of the company is abysmal who use a "wait and see" approach... and as such there are consistent shortcomings, be they summer staff going back to education or equipment finally becoming unusable and left to rot not replaced any time soon causing a 'fight' over equipment.Lastly, there is no reason to hang around if you can get a job elsewhere for better pay. You don't get increased pay for staying over the years, you could be working here 20 years to have the same wage or even less to someone just joining.

Avoid working here

The management is an absolute nightmare. Company is unorganised, lunch breaks given at the wrong times. Some shifts I’ve done where 3am-3pm. No night shift allowance either. They pay you as little as possible. Unpaid breaks. They force you to go to different departments like baggage handling without any training whatsoever, so you then end up with angry passengers screaming at you but there’s nothing you can do to help then as you haven’t a clue what’s going on. Once you leave the company there is no hope in getting a reference of them, you’re ignored. I liked the job itself, but this company is terrible, LOTS of favouritism aswell.

Avoid this company at all cost, very disorganised and extremely understaffed, you will be working 12 hour shifts then hassled to do overtime at the end of your shifts by supervisors and lead agents, you do get overtime time bonuses but if you have a genuine sick day during the month all of your overtime you loose all your overtime bonuses, breaks don't exist unless you just take them yourself and when doing so you will constantly be phoned to see where you are. Even if you don't get or take your break you will be deducted 1 hour pay, scanners only work 60 percent of the times and baggage dollies aren't fit for use with many of them in dangerous condition with bits of sharp metal sticking out causing minor and serious cuts, you could be finished at 7pm and not due back in until 7am but by the time you get home your roster will have been changed to a 3am start. Certain lead agent think it's OK to speak to you as if your worthless. Lots of staff do the bare minimum and get praised whilst other staff are breaking their backs to ensure all bags make the flight. Weekends off do not exist and if you tell management you can't come in at certain times due to commitments with children the will continually roster you in for them times.

Good place to work

I like this place because they will teach you how is everything behind the flights and airports in general. I was able to work and study at the same time and it was a good pros for me

Not very organised also you can be moved department and you cant refuse. Pay could be a little more for the amount of work you are expected to carry out and alot more staff needed

Terrible management

Understaffed and bad management who only care about themselves.HR are a disgrace. Finish at 1am and expected to be in at 11am the next day..Roster needs fixing

Busy and fun

Very busy and stressful when you start at the end of the year before Christmas and New Years, very nice place to work at but sometimes not much to do so. Everyone was very nice and helpful but 3 days of shadowing I don’t think it’s enough for us to learn (physically) everything in 3 days , we need atleast 1 week to physically understand how to work with customers.

Fairly flexible with personal schedule

Typical worklife balance for airport Staff. Payscale been increased over time as easily promoted if you do your job well.Fast peaced environment sometimes

Stay well clear of this company

Do not work for this company as they dont care about their staff, if you ever try to phone HR you will not get through to them, also stay away as the management do not know how to run a company, they will have you come in on your days off and work without even asking if you can come in or not and they exept you to come in and work also you have no social life what so ever

Good employer

Happyworkers full management support at all times employees of the month scheme supportive management. Interdepartment coordination about work and everybody happy.Staffs are very courteous and friendly.

Not a great place to work

Hr are a nitemare to deal with if and when they eventually decide to reply to you would not recommend sky handling partner to anyone there are plenty of far better jobs its not worth the stress of working for them

Great training,

If you love airports and aircraft movements then this company will suit you perfectly well. You're going to be working on the ramp, taking care of an aircraft, while this may sound daunting, you will have plenty of experienced people around to advise you about any doubts.

Helpful hours when in college, Team work is great

I work in the Load Control department. The work ethic of management is inspiring to other staff and establishes a healthy and positive work ethic. I am studying in college, the rostering department are very accommodating with me for letting me work when is most appropriate. My manager has always been very responsive and helpful to my requests or issues that may arise. A great place to work when you apply yourself and willing to work in a fast paced environment. Also a great place to work if you wish to gain hands on experience within the aviation industry

Used and abused

Forget about lunch break, normal working hours, work culture, bank holidays, Christmas holidays, pay rise. Get ready to be used and abused, especially at the beginning 10 or 11 hours shifts of hard labour. Expecting tea break after 4 hours of work - forget that as well. Nobody cares - best description about companys work culture.
