The Factor brothers are confident you won't smash your makeup box if it contains their lineup of cosmetics. In addition to makeup for the lips, eyes, and face, Smashbox Beauty Cosmetics offers makeup brushes, pencils and sharpeners, stylist bags, makeup removers, cleansers, and moisturizers. The company's products are sold in stores the likes of Ulta, Sephora, – more... and Nordstrom, primarily in the US but also in Canada. Smashbox Beauty Cosmetics came into existence in 1996 when brothers David and Dean Factor (great-grandsons of legendary makeup artist Max Factor) became fed up with the quality of cosmetics made for photographic use. In 2010 the company was acquired by The Estée Lauder Companies.

Smashbox was an attractive target for the prestige cosmetics giant because of the devoted following of Smashbox's young shoppers. Now run by the Lauder children and known for its upscale eponymous brand, Estée Lauder has been working to add more youthful customers to its base by peddling offerings from Clinique and M.A.C. Fitting the "youthful customer" bill, Smashbox, which itself had been looking to grow, benefits from Estée Lauder's know-how in product development, marketing, and international distribution.

With an established distribution network in the US and abroad, Smashbox Beauty Cosmetics has been expanding in the travel-retail arena, both in airport shops and in flight. It also has been looking to extend its reach in Hong Kong and Taiwan, where the company has been selling its products for a couple years.

The company's #1 seller has been its Photo Finish Foundation Primer, which purportedly creates a smooth base for foundation and makes it last longer. It's also known for its Photo Op Under Eye Brightener and Jet Set waterproof eye liner.
