Health Care Assistant in Ballina, County Mayo

Hard work
Very hard work, for not much pay. Only 10.50 an hour including nights which I think should be more as premium hours, but worth it as you make great friends and the residents are lovely.
HCA in Roscommon, County Roscommon

Underpaid very hard work management changed had a impact on care
From my time in sonas it was fast paced environment but it was do able the pros would be the residents you grow to have a bond with them all and a good relationship is build during my time there is a lot of bullying which would drain ya and management don’t review it management changed during my time it has greatly affected the staff issues and the quality of care to the residents which is a disgrace it has all went down hill and for anyone with good mental health it would be considered not recommended to advance in a job with this company.
HCA in Carlow, County Carlow

Frustrating, some great days some awful days
I love my work as an HCA. But in Sonas nursing homes sometimes I hate it. Constant issues regarding staffing and being left short staffed. Carers are completely overworked and undervalued. Just another cog in the money-making machine. Head office and management don't care as long as things run smoothly for them. The most frustrating thing is the lack of stock and materials, continuously running out waiting for orders to come in, it's not fair on the residents and that's the worst part.
Health Care Assistant in Athlone, County Westmeath

Good environment to work in
Love working with the residents. Staff work well as a team. Good management. Get good hours and days off. Training provided. Well organised so that the day runs smoothly.
Care Assistant in County Tipperary

Do not apply if you value your mental health
Very poor work life balance.€10.50 an hour for HCAs working for absolutely nothing it's an insult for the job we do.Always short staffed because nobody in their right mind would take that pay over what other places are paying.Very high stress environment.
