A very poorly managed store with lunatic directors placing huge pressure and unrealistic targets and standards for staff on minimum wage. Short staffed in every department to deal with the high volume of customers, insufficient training and thrown in the deep end with a mountain load of information to learn straight away with out of date and faulty equipment for a store of its size. Horrible and unapproachable is the only way to describe upper management (ironically called 'Top Team') who are more concerned with trying to elevate their own status through groveling to lunatic directors in pathetic fashion than improving the toxic work environment and staff morale.
New ridiculous systems are constantly forced upon staff under enough pressure to perform the job and hit several targets which works to only hinder staff performance and creates more problems. Yet there are no bonuses or incentives on offer for hitting these never ending targets coincided with very poor pay for a job that commands so much knowledge. Management and staff are living in constant terror of lunatic directors' daily sales expectations. The staff are culpable at all times if sales targets aren't met which in turn creates an environment of severe anxiety and pressure.
One of the most bewildering aspects of the store is the WhatsApp group that is constantly active with messages from the moment you wake up till you go home that lunatic directors think is showing staff they are appreciated while it is actually ramming home the mountain load of targets to hit and how nothing is ever good enough no appreciationmore... despite the hard work and diligence of stressed staff members worked to the bone by the wave after wave of chaos all around them. The group is very artificial and nothing more than a facade to appease lunatic directors. To make matters worse lunatic directors and management constantly posting nauseating inspirational quotes in this WhatsApp group and around the store all of which are completely at odds with how they run the business and treat their staff.
Staff welfare is given the absolute lowest priority in the zoo like atmosphere in the store. Staff lunches regularly run 3-4 hours behind, forced to wear cheap and ridiculous looking promotional jumpers to boost sales, the store open all but 3 days out of the entire year, sent out on the streets in the rain (without being allowed to wear a coat) with an IPad trying to book customers in for tests on top of being expected to tolerate all types of behavior from highly abusive and rude customers who are given free reign to treat staff however they wish and are appeased as lunatic directors place the fear of losing their business above staff welfare to extraordinary levels making them morally bankrupt as employers.
It should come as no surprise that the turnover of staff is astronomically high and will remain so as it is not a sustainable environment to have long term staff members. The Specsavers OL store is nothing more than one big blame game. As soon as sales drop short of lunatic directors' ridiculous expectations the finger pointing ensues and the undervalued stressed staff bear the brunt of lunatic directors' fury rather than looking at their own obvious failings. As such it can be summarized as an overall emotionally exhausting and draining environment that is encapsulated by absolute greed, mismanagement and incompetence. For the sake of your own sanity stay well clear of gaining employment in this madhouse run by utter lunatics.less
