Good company, local managers need more training
Fresh Foods Team Leader (Current Employee) –  IE15 June 2018
Tesco is a good company to work for, good benefits and in theory good opportunities to advance. Managers in my store don’t seem interested in doing so. If my store was ran better it would be an excellent place to work
Pros
Excellent benefits
Cons
No interest shown by managers at a local level

Soul Sucking
Shop Floor Assistant (Former Employee) –  Drogheda, County Louth12 June 2018
If you just want to get paid, it's great. Any shred of humanity may be ripped from your soul by the management. The benefits are great and pay is reasonable.
Pros
Staff
Cons
Managers looking to move up in the company(This means most of them)

Run a mile in the other direction!!
Sales Assistant/Cashier full time (Former Employee) –  Cork and Dublin11 June 2018
Worst mistake i made was working with them. I worked in 3 different tescos in different counties because i wanted to relocate and all the exact same! . Worked with them a total 2 years and couldnt work for them anymore. Bad hours, bad management, bad work ethic and favoritism to family members. All have their clicks and if youre not apart of it they'll treat you like terribly. Over look you for positions for the lick a*ses. Stay well clear! Only bonus if you could call it that is after a year you get a card for 10% off your groceries but that has a limit as well of course.not worth it!
Pros
Nothing
Cons
Everything!

Unsociable hours
Customer Assistant (Current Employee) –  Dublin31 May 2018
Hours are unsociable and ridiculous , Management never acts on any of the surveys given out, culture is negative and draining nobody wants to be there, high turnover, as soon as something else is available people are gone wages are decent for retail which is the only redeeming factor.

Line Manager (Current Employee) –  Dublin17 May 2018
Every day is different, always busy! Tough but rewarding job. The team spirit in shops makes the job much easier and more enjoyable. I learned so much while working at Tesco.

Great place to work
Compliance Manager (Current Employee) –  Ireland6 May 2018
Love working for Tesco, however there is no incentive to move on in the company as management pay is sometimes lower than customer assistants/ team leaders. For a line manager to move on to senior team is pretty much the same also.
Pros
enjoyable work
Cons
long hours

A challenging job in a competitive sector
Night Manager (Current Employee) –  Dublin2 May 2018
A challenging role within a sector which is continually looking to cut costs in order to maintain profitability. The constant challenge of delivering the shop consistently regardless of issues that arise during the course of a shift or the volume of work involved. The deployment of ever more limited resources to achieve this and the constant prioritizing of the workload results in a job that is never dull.
Cultivating a customer loyalty through engagement and solid customer service is another important though often overlooked part of my role. I enjoy the interaction with customers is one of the more enjoyable aspects of my role, though the need to deal with the occasional issue or complaint does arise. it rarely detracts from the pleasure gained from establishing and maintaining a good relationship with customers.
The hardest part of my job is definitely the long hours coupled with the long commute. The fact that the role involves a large degree of physical work in addition to the managerial and supervisory functions performed results in a job that is both physically and mentally tiring.

long term opportunity
Manager (Former Employee) –  Cork1 May 2018
I worked in Tesco for 13 years, I started as RSO, one year later got a position as manager. Mangers job is quite challenging, as a manager you have to deal with a lot of different situations and people, staff, customers, stock, waste. The money is fair for the job you do, but sometimes you would agree to get less, but to have more bodies to work for you, so you could focus more on customer service and managing people, at the moment is that as a manager you have to work together with your staff and serve customers and do the other managers stuff, but you don't really have time for that. So if you like challenges and looking for opportunity to climb the ladder and make your career, so Tesco is the right place for you.
Pros
10 percent discount after one years service, pension plans, sick pays
Cons
long hrs, workload can be way too big

Dotcom picket
Sales Assistant (Part-time) dot com (Former Employee) –  Maynooth, County Kildare14 March 2018
Co workers are great, but managers are a nightmare, if you can't stay back after your shift you are bullied, and intimated told you will be moved to a different department, if you can't do the job, no social life at all as you work every wknd with either 5 or 6 in the morning starts, work load is to much , and back breaking very low moral in this store
Wages are not great and only get staff discount after a year of a whole 10%, you have to be fully flexible with Tesco but zero flexibility from them or maybe it was just my store
Pros
Co workers dotcom team members
Cons
Managerment

A typical day at work here would basically just be packing a delivery and then towards the end of the night facing off the shop. Other things that may have to be done during the shift is filling the trolley bay and taking care of loose stock
Pros
