I enjoyed working there but there was one older worker there that treated everyone like she was better then them. I had to pay for all the couses i needed for the job even though i never new i needed these qualifications.
The majority of the workforce are students that aren't held accountable for their actions, I did not enjoy the fact that as senior manager I was told that I was not allowed to delegate to the staff. I was told that I am not allowed to ask waiters to clear plates and glasses. Junior staff are constantly arriving late for work and not completing tasks and when you want to take any action to rectify their behavior, it is brushed off by HR. When staff make these mistakes or let the business down by not pitching to work even, you as a manager get blamed for their actions. I was not even allowed to train the staff properly because of budgets, but you are dealing with a bunch of unskilled students and teens who are studying something else and who are not committed to the business as this is just a side hustle to them. Very difficult work atmosphere as the HR team are constantly interfering with scheduling and the operation as they do not understand that if you want to give a certain level of service to your guests you need to budget for more staff and training. Getting staff in 15 minutes before a function is impractical and to the detriment of the operation. Cutting corners on staff budgets does not help breed knowledgeable staff. You just put everyone under pressure because the bottom line is more important than the guest. Leading by example does not include 4 pints every evening in front of staff and managers. Shocking
Never any great organisation in the place. Constantly taking on bookings after roster has gone out to staff. This results in staff constantly being called in on short notice (sometimes no notice at all). Split shifts on consecutive days a regular thing also. Lastly, getting time off is an absolute nightmare. Maybe there are people happy with conditions like this but it really wasn’t for me. I wouldn’t recommend people working in this place
On an average working day i take orders in the restaurant or/bar . I also set and clean tables. After that I take the cash or credit card. The hardest part of the job is dealing with customers but that is also my highlight so every customer is different.
Long hours e.g. I would be working 14 hours shift with only 30 minute break
