Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Dublin, County Dublin - 17 May 2022
My colleagues were nice and so were the managers. Was a good place to work part time. Pay is not great for the amount you do. Can gain a lot of knowledge in different areas.

Retail
Apprentice (Former Employee) - Sandyford, County Dublin - 10 April 2022
Retail is Retail, co-workers are key. Without a good group the place would be dull. Worked there for about 6 years. Nearly impossible to get a work life balance once they become dependent on you

Nice place to work
Replenishment (Former Employee) - Dublin, County Dublin - 22 February 2022
Very relaxed good place for someone to gain experience in retail and can work their way up.It is a much better retailer to work for.Dunnes, lidl and SuperValu are nightmares and there is more benefits working for woodies. You get paid for sick leave after a year ,you get employee discounts in many shops and the company cares about their staff mental health etc
Pros
Good staff discount
Cons
You have to learn about a lot of products

Enjoyable work, great atmosphere and friendly managers
Store Colleague (Former Employee) - Sandyford, County Dublin - 16 January 2022
I really enjoyed working at woodies. I got to learn a lot about horticulture and I met a lot of fun and interesting people. Managers are friendly and are open to any discussions. Working hours were difficult at times, particularly when college got tough but summer hours were nice
Pros
Long lunch breaks, loads of benefits
Cons
Difficult working schedule

Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Dublin, County Dublin - 20 December 2021
Great managers very helpful friendly and flexible Pay not great but grand for those studying looking for a bit of part time pay or those looking to gain customer service experience If DIY is your thing you would enjoy it. Hours capped at 39hrs a week which was my only reason for leaving.
Pros
Nice people very flexible management very encouraging
Cons
Pay could be better

Quite boring and stressful at times
Customer Service Assistant (Former Employee) - Sandyford - 22 November 2021
It was ok, I was part time student and some times I felt as if I was taken for granted. The hours were bleak and not many holidays were given. Management were unorganised at times

Terrible company to work for
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Coolock, County Dublin - 18 November 2021
Overall worst experience out of all my jobs. Not a company you can have a career in. Management are terrible and expect you to work to the bone for such little pay and throw you an odd just eat voucher to make up for it. It started off great but bad management drags the whole shop down! Headsets are used to scold staff and not help colleagues with queries something that needs to be reviewed by HR! Managers are too personal as well and do not act as professionally as they should. When you leave you are thrown to the door with no thanks or appreciation for the work you did. Management also take holiday pay out of your requested days off without telling you. There are also certain parts of the year where you lose hours.
Pros
Just eat vouchers
Cons
Everything else

Jobs at Woodie's DIY
Nice place to work for a while
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Kilkenny City, County Kilkenny - 22 October 2021
Had the job all through college, after college found it very hard to progress in the job. Pay is slightly above min wage. Moved to a new role in the company, refused to pay me the new wage, they are terrible on pay
Pros
The staff
Cons
Weekend work, managers, low pay

No progression
Regional Visual Merchandiser & Space Planner (Current Employee) - Ireland - 4 October 2021
Very little progression available. Everyone is in the same position for at least 3-5 years. Salaries really low and no option of increase unless you interview for a promotion which a lot of people go of or and only come around maybe once a year

Can't fault it!
Colleague (Current Employee) - Naas, County Kildare - 9 July 2021
I've been with Woodies just over a year now and I really can't fault them. They looked after us really well during covid and made sure everybody felt safe at work. There's lots of updates on our Vivo app to keep everybody in know about what's happening and every few weeks there's new jobs posted. The little gifts sent down by the company show they do care and make you feel appreciated. Not sure about other stores but the managers in our store are really down to earth and so are the head office managers when they come to visit. There's no airs or graces like in other places I've worked!!!
Pros
presents, pay review, communication

Cons

Woodie's value their colleagues.
Retail Assistant (Current Employee) - Sallynoggin, County Dublin - 9 July 2021
If you work hard you will be rewarded. There are many opportunities to advance within the company. Management take a very collaborative approach and communicate well with staff.
Pros
Colleague rewards, career progression

Underpay salary for the amount of work.
Customer Assistant (Current Employee) - Dublin - 2 June 2021
It’s an underpay salary for the amount of work you do as a stock staff. Which includes cleaning and lifting heavy stuff majority of the time. Would definitely recommend Woodies to hire a cleaning team that would look after dusting and cleaning the whole shop including garden area (broom). Otherwise you could be asked to brush the whole garden will take you about 30/45mins of just brushing.
Pros
Good management
Cons
Underpay salary

Worst Place to wprk ever
Sales Assistant and Cashier (Former Employee) - Sandyford, County Dublin - 21 August 2020
Worse place to work ever, work you to the bone for peanuts. Management (with the exception of 2 team leaders) dont care about there staff, literally no work/life balance. Expect you to be experts at everything with no training. Favourites got advancments. One guy with mental health issues was told take a pill and get over it. Heard recently that the manager in question was moved to another store (god help them).
Pros
1 team leaders whos name starts with D
Cons
Pay, upper management, poor job advancement, poor moral, not enough space to type them all

Poor management
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Athlone, County Westmeath - 15 August 2020
Management don't communicate, assign so many tasks a day and expect them all to be done whilst asking you to do even more things on top of that, calling you on your booked days off, treating you like you're stupid, no training given, no respect for staff
Pros
Extra pay on Sundays and bank holidays
Cons
Poor management, no teamwork, no training

Job appeal depends on the person.
Shop assistant Woodie's (Current Employee) - Galway - 6 August 2020
Work is manageable, colleagues lovely and customers nice. Will be well trained and if doing something unsafe or giving the wrong info, most colleagues will help and correct in encouraging manner. Good work/life balance. Bias at times to certain staff and work can go underappreciated. Poor attitude from long-time staff to certain staff seems to be brushed off at times. Mostly positive time there.
Pros
Colleagues are eager and willing to help, Management know their craft and willing to help, Positive environment more often than not, Sections well laid out which make it easier for new staff to find what they need
Cons
Not paid enough for skills and knowledge required to do job well, Bias towards certain staff can lead to frustration amongst colleagues, Old-fashioned mindset amongst long-term staff can make certain colleagues feel very out of place
