The Role

We are hiring an experienced technical person to offer day-to-day technical support in our Swords office and workshop, with regular travel to customer sites.This is a technical role, not a sales role. Roughly 50% of your time will be office and workshop based — sizing and configuring instrumentation, building and testing systems before dispatch, supporting customers by phone and email, and producing documentation. The balance is on site, commissioning, calibrating and fault-finding alongside our field team.You do not need to know our specific product lines. You do need solid instrumentation and electrical fundamentals, the confidence to work through a problem you have not seen before, and the appetite to be trained to a high level on flow measurement, water quality analysis and industrial networking. We will invest in manufacturer training with our principals (NIVUS, HORIBA and others)

Key Responsibilities

• Provide first-line technical support to customers by phone, email and remote connection — configuration, fault diagnosis, application questions.
• Size, select and specify instrumentation against customer applications and drawings; support quotations with the technical detail.
• Configure, assemble, bench test and quality check instrumentation, panels and monitoring systems in the workshop prior to dispatch.
• Attend customer sites to install, commission, calibrate and maintain equipment — independently once trained, and alongside the field team before that.
• Diagnose faults on site and in the workshop across sensors, transmitters, loop wiring, power supplies and industrial communications (4–20 mA, Modbus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP).
• Produce and maintain technical documentation: commissioning records, calibration certificates, O&M manuals, wiring schedules and service reports, in line with our ISO 9001 quality management system.
• Look after the workshop: stock of spares and demo units, test equipment calibration, repairs and returns.
• Contribute to a workshop automation initiative — developing, assembling and testing automated test and configuration processes.
• Liaise with manufacturers on technical queries, warranty and escalated faults.
• Work safely at all times, following health and safety procedures on site and in the workshop.

What We're Looking For

Essential

• Practical competence with instrumentation fundamentals: loop wiring, 4–20 mA, relays, signal conditioning, sensor calibration, use of test equipment.
• Comfortable reading electrical drawings, P&IDs and manufacturer manuals, and working from them without hand-holding.
• Clear written and spoken English — you will be writing reports customers read and manufacturers act on.
• 2+ years' hands-on experience in a technical role — field service, commissioning, maintenance, calibration, controls or process instrumentation.

• Full, clean driving licence. Site travel across Ireland is a routine part of the role, with occasional overnights.
• Right to work in Ireland.

Advantageous

• Experience with flow measurement, Temperature calibrations, water quality analysis ( eg TOC, pH, conductivity, turbidity), or process analysers.
• Industrial communications and networking: Modbus RTU/TCP, Profinet, Profibus, HART, switch and IP configuration.
• PLC, HMI or SCADA exposure — configuration, basic programming, data mapping.
• Experience in regulated environments (pharma, food/beverage, water utilities) and the documentation standards that come with them.
• Safe Pass, Manual Handling, confined space, working at heights — in date. If not, we will book and fund the training.
• Prior experience in a distributor, OEM or systems integrator, dealing directly with end users.
• Not essential depending on experience but can be beneficial is a qualification in instrumentation, electrical/electronic engineering, automation, mechatronics or a related discipline (Level 6 upwards, or equivalent trade qualification).
