Full job description

Alpha Sign, Nameplate & Decal Company is seeking an experienced and detail-focused Pre-Press Artist to join our production team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing customer artwork for manufacture across a wide range of signage, nameplate, label and decal products. This is a hands-on role requiring strong artwork skills, excellent attention to detail and a good understanding of print and manufacturing processes.

You will work closely with our sales, production and management teams to ensure artwork is accurate, production-ready and manufactured to the required customer specification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, check and amend customer-supplied artwork for production.
  • Create accurate production-ready artwork for signs, nameplates, decals, labels and graphic products.
  • Check artwork for correct dimensions, scale, fonts, colours, line weights, bleed, cut paths and image resolution.
  • Create and modify vector artwork, including logos, symbols, technical graphics and text.
  • Convert customer files into suitable production formats.
  • Set up artwork for digital printing, screen printing, cutting, routing, engraving and other production processes as required.
  • Prepare vinyl cutting files and cut paths for plotter production.
  • Prepare files for printing onto a range of materials including vinyl, polyester, polycarbonate and aluminium.
  • Work with artwork for anodised aluminium nameplates, industrial labels and identification products.
  • Produce customer artwork proofs and approval drawings.
  • Make artwork revisions following customer feedback.
  • Check approved artwork carefully before releasing jobs to production.
  • Maintain accurate file naming, version control and artwork records.
  • Liaise with production staff to ensure artwork is practical and suitable for the intended manufacturing process.
  • Identify potential artwork or production issues before jobs reach the manufacturing stage.
  • Ensure customer branding, colours, dimensions and specifications are accurately reproduced.
  • Manage multiple jobs simultaneously while meeting production deadlines.
  • Assist with improving artwork templates, workflows and pre-press procedures.

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience in a pre-press, graphic production, signage, label, decal or print environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator.
  • Good working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Excellent vector artwork and file preparation skills.
  • A strong understanding of CMYK, RGB, Pantone and spot colours.
  • Experience preparing artwork for digital and/or screen printing.
  • Experience creating cut paths, outlines and production files.
  • Good understanding of print resolution, fonts, transparencies, overprints, bleed and other pre-press requirements.
  • Ability to accurately interpret customer specifications, drawings and dimensions.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work accurately in a busy production environment.
  • Ability to identify problems and find practical production solutions.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

Experience within the signage, industrial nameplate, label or decal industry would be a significant advantage.

What We're Looking For

This position would suit someone who is technically strong with artwork rather than purely focused on creative graphic design.

We are looking for someone who understands that good pre-press artwork needs to be accurate, consistent and manufacturable. Small details such as an incorrect dimension, colour, cut line or font can have a major impact once a job reaches production.

The successful candidate should therefore be methodical, organised and comfortable taking responsibility for ensuring artwork is correct before manufacture.

What We Offer

  • Full-time position with an established signage, nameplate and decal manufacturer.
  • Varied work across commercial and industrial print applications.
  • Opportunity to work with a wide range of printing, cutting and finishing technologies.
  • Training and development in specialist production processes.
  • A practical, team-based working environment.
  • Competitive salary based on skills and experience.

How to Apply

Please submit your CV along with examples of relevant pre-press, print, signage or production artwork experience.
