Location: Ireland, Onsite
Reports to: Managing Director

The Role

Machinelab is seeking an experienced, practical Automation Engineer to design, programme and commission automated systems for customers across GMP regulated industries, food and FMCG.

This is a technical delivery role involving PLC programming, robotics integration, machine commissioning and customer support from initial concept through to FAT and SAT.

The role offers an opportunity to progress into technical leadership and contribute to Machinelab’s continued development of standardised, intelligent automation solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement machine control logic and automation sequences
  • Programme PLC systems using Allen Bradley, Siemens or equivalent platforms
  • Programme and integrate industrial robots such as Fanuc, ABB, KUKA or Universal Robots
  • Develop HMI and SCADA applications
  • Translate User Requirement Specifications into practical control system designs
  • Commission and optimise machinery during FAT and SAT
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex controls and system integration issues
  • Work closely with mechanical, electrical and project management teams
  • Act as a technical point of contact for customers throughout the project lifecycle
  • Develop reusable code libraries, function blocks and software standards
  • Ensure systems are delivered safely, on time and to specification

Experience and SkillsEssential

  • Strong practical PLC programming experience
  • Experience programming or integrating industrial robots
  • HMI or SCADA development experience
  • Strong debugging, commissioning and fault finding skills
  • Experience with automated machinery and system integration
  • Ability to interpret and implement customer requirements
  • Clear communication and a collaborative working style
  • Full driving licence
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites when required

Desirable

  • Experience in pharmaceutical, medical device, food or other regulated manufacturing environments
  • Electrical design experience, including schematics, panel layouts or I/O design
  • Machine vision or automated inspection experience
  • Experience with machinery validation and GMP documentation
  • Experience developing reusable software libraries or automation standards

  • Demonstrated the potential to take on greater technical leadership responsibility
