Full job description
Senior Software Developer (Java / Full Stack), Maynooth, Co. Kildare
Company: QS Software Solutions Ltd (QS Project and QSP Dayworks)
Location: Maynooth, Co. Kildare. Full-time on-site for the first three months, four days a week on-site for months four to six, then hybrid, 2 to 3 days on-site
Salary: €70,000 to €80,000, depending on experience
Type: Permanent, full-time
https://www.qs-project.com/en
The Company
QS Software Solutions builds commercial management software for the construction sector, designed by quantity surveyors for quantity surveyors. Two products, one platform: QS Project for day-to-day commercial project control (variations, delay tracking, payment applications, supply chain, cost reporting), and QSP Dayworks, a cloud platform that runs the dayworks process end-to-end.
The platform is live and in daily use by customers ranging from independent QS practices to large main contractors across Ireland, the UK and Europe. We are founder-led, established and growing, and we are adding senior capacity to the engineering team.
The Role
You will build and ship features across the full stack: a Java (Spring Boot) backend and a React (Next.js, TypeScript) frontend, cloud-hosted on AWS. Alongside feature work, you will contribute to how we engineer the product: automated testing, CI quality gates, observability and release tooling. You will work directly with the CTO and the founders; there is no layer between you and the decisions. It is a modern, actively maintained stack, and we use AI coding tools actively across the team.
This suits a senior engineer who wants ownership: your work is in front of customers within weeks, and you help strengthen the engineering practice as the product grows.
What You Will Do
- Design, build and ship full stack features on a Java (Spring Boot) and React/TypeScript codebase.
- Own your features from design through review, automated tests and release.
- Help grow automated testing and CI as the product scales.
- Contribute to logging, monitoring and error reporting across the platform.
- Help ship and run features on AWS, including CI/CD, production health and occasional planned out-of-hours releases.
- Be a senior voice on architecture and code review.
What You Will Need
- A track record of owning features or systems end to end, from design to production (senior-level ability; as a rough guide, typically around 7+ years).
- Strong recent Java (Spring Boot preferred).
- Production experience with React and Next.js (or a comparable SSR framework), including running its Node.js layer in production.
- Experience building or improving automated test suites and CI pipelines.
- Production experience on AWS, including deployment and CI/CD.
- MongoDB or another document database in production.
- Effective use of AI coding tools, with sound judgement on where they help and where they do not.
- Security-aware engineering: you treat customer data, credentials and dependencies with care. No formal security background needed.
- The judgement to own delivery in a lean team and communicate clearly with non-engineers.
- Within commuting distance of Maynooth, local candidates are preferred, as the role involves regular office attendance and client meetings.
- Full right to work in Ireland.
- Useful but not required: deeper security or compliance experience, or construction industry experience.
If you meet most of the requirements but not all, apply anyway.
Package
- €70,000 to €80,000 base, depending on experience.
- Pension contribution: negotiable.
- Private health cover: negotiable.
- Hybrid working with an office outside the Dublin gridlock, a genuine commute advantage for commuter-belt candidates. We ask for full time office attendance for the first three months, as you settle into the team and the product, stepping down to four days a week for months four to six, then the ongoing pattern of 2 to 3 days on site.
- Six months’ probation, standard for the market, with clear delivery expectations set out at the start.
Hiring Process
A short, three stage process:
- a 30-minute screening video call,
- one practical technical video call interview with the CTO, and
- an in-person meeting with the founders (location to be confirmed).
We aim to move from first contact to offer within two weeks for the right candidate.
How to Apply
Apply with your CV to careers@qs-project.com, or through this listing. Include a couple of lines on a feature or system you owned end to end. We hire on capability and welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
