Junior BMS Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking a Junior Building Management System (BMS) Engineer to support the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of BMS and HVAC control systems. The successful candidate will have basic electrical and mechanical knowledge, a willingness to learn, and an interest in building automation and energy-efficient systems.

The role involves working alongside senior engineers, technicians, contractors, and clients mainly across office environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the installation, testing, and commissioning of BMS control systems.
• Support preventive and corrective maintenance of BMS equipment.
• Help diagnose basic faults involving sensors, actuators, controllers, control panels, valves, dampers, and communication networks.
• Review basic electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, mechanical schematics, and control panel layouts.
• Assist with point-to-point checks, cable inspections, and controller input/output testing.
• Monitor HVAC systems through BMS software and identify alarms or abnormal operating conditions.
• Support the configuration of controllers, graphics, alarm settings, schedules, and trend logs under supervision.
• Verify the operation of equipment such as air handling units, pumps, fans, boilers, chillers, and variable-speed drives.
• Maintain accurate commissioning sheets, service reports, test records, and technical documentation.
• Follow site safety requirements, electrical safety procedures, and company quality standards.
• Communicate progress and technical issues clearly to senior engineers.
• Attend technical training and develop knowledge of building automation, HVAC controls, and energy management.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma, certificate, or degree in electrical engineering, building services, automation, controls, or a related discipline.
• May suit an Electrical/Instrumentation apprentice (3rd or 4th year) looking to move into a more controls/automation based role.
• Basic understanding of electrical systems, including voltage, current, relays, contactors, control wiring, and safe use of test equipment.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical and HVAC systems, including pumps, fans, valves, dampers, heating, cooling, and ventilation.
• Ability to read basic electrical diagrams and mechanical schematics.
• Familiarity with BMS, PLC, HVAC controls, or building automation is desirable but not essential.
• Previous internship, apprenticeship, or site experience is an advantage.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and the ability to learn specialist BMS software.
• Valid driving licence required.

• BACnet, Modbus, communication protocols.
• HVAC control sequences and basic control-loop principles.
• Sensors for temperature, humidity, pressure, flow, and CO₂.
• Variable-frequency drives and motor control systems.
• BMS platforms such as Siemens, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, Trend, Tridium Niagara, or Johnson Controls.
• Basic networking concepts, including IP addresses and Ethernet connections.
• Energy monitoring and building-performance systems.

Working Conditions

The position will involve travel between client sites (90% Dublin based), work in plant rooms or control-panel areas. Appropriate training, supervision, and personal protective equipment will be provided.
