Job Description:

Project Engineer

Location: Fully Onsite*****

Reporting to: Facilities Manager Ireland & Head of Engineering and Maintenance UK & Ireland

Job Description

We are seeking a practical, solutions-focused Project Engineer to support warehouse development, major new customer projects, and continuous improvement initiatives across operations in Ireland.

This role combines engineering design, project implementation (covering both new developments and facility remodelling projects), supplier management, and operational improvement within a fast-paced logistics environment.

This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys being on-site, working alongside contractors and engineering teams to successfully deliver industrial engineering projects from concept through to commissioning.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical and electrical installations within an industrial environment and will be confident coordinating multiple contractors, resolving engineering issues, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

This role would suit someone with a background as a Project Engineer, Site Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer, or an experienced Engineering Supervisor/Foreman who has progressed into project delivery.

Project Delivery & Implementation

  • Support the Head of Engineering in the delivery of major greenfield developments, facility expansions, and refurbishment projects.
  • Manage engineering projects from concept through installation, commissioning, and handover.
  • Work with Directors and Senior Management to define project scope, requirements, budgets, milestones, and delivery programmes.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to develop conceptual designs into fully operational engineering solutions.
  • Plan, programme, and oversee mechanical and electrical installations within live industrial environments.
  • Coordinate contractors and suppliers across mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, fire protection, lighting, and general construction disciplines.
  • Manage multiple contractors on-site, ensuring works are completed safely, on programme, and to the required quality standards.
  • Chair project meetings, including contractor, health & safety, production, and progress meetings.
  • Liaise with Health & Safety teams to ensure all project documentation, permits, risk assessments, and compliance documentation remain current.
  • Develop and maintain project programmes, identifying risks, delays, and mitigation plans.
  • Monitor project costs, including budgets, quotations, variations (VOs), payment applications, and change control.
  • Coordinate witness testing, commissioning, Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and project handovers.
  • Review engineering drawings, construction drawings, and P&IDs to ensure installations comply with project requirements.
  • Keep Senior Management informed of project progress, risks, delays, and key milestones through regular reporting.

Warehouse Design & Facility Development

  • Support warehouse development, facility improvement, and refurbishment projects across Ireland.
  • Assist with reviewing facility layouts and engineering drawings to support project delivery.
  • Work with suppliers and contractors to identify suitable equipment and engineering solutions.
  • Support the preparation of project cost estimates, budgets, and implementation plans.
  • Provide engineering and technical support to the Project Development, Maintenance, and Operations teams.
  • Work closely with Site Management to coordinate project schedules and minimise operational disruption.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of facility modifications and operational improvements.

Supplier & Contractor Management

  • Evaluate supplier proposals using both technical and commercial criteria.
  • Build strong relationships with contractors and suppliers to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Monitor contractor and supplier performance throughout project execution, ensuring quality, programme, and commercial expectations are achieved.

Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with Regional General Managers and Engineering Leadership to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
  • Analyse operational data, engineering performance, and existing processes to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Redesign layouts, workflows, and engineering processes to improve operational efficiency, safety, and productivity.
  • Estimate implementation costs, return on investment, and projected operational savings.
  • Support the implementation of improvement initiatives while minimising disruption to operations.
  • Adapt project plans and engineering solutions quickly in response to changing site conditions, operational requirements, or unforeseen challenges.
  • Identify engineering issues early and implement practical, cost-effective solutions to maintain project progress.

About You

  • A strong understanding of engineering and construction drawings.
