We are partnering with a medical device client who are looking to hire a Director of R&D to join their expanding European operation. The company supports innovative MedTech businesses across product development, engineering, manufacturing and supply chain solutions.
Role Overview
The Director of R&D will lead global research and development activities, driving technical strategy, innovation, and execution across complex medical device programmes. This role will provide leadership to multidisciplinary teams, ensuring delivery of high-quality solutions aligned with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver international R&D programmes from concept through development.
- Provide strategic and operational leadership to engineering and R&D teams.
- Build and develop high-performing, collaborative technical teams.
- Drive innovation, technology development, and knowledge management.
- Partner with commercial, quality, and operations teams to support business growth.
- Manage technical risks and complex development challenges.
- Support quality systems, regulatory readiness, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Influence senior stakeholders across global teams.
Candidate Profile
- Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical, Materials, or related discipline); advanced qualification preferred.
- 10+ years’ experience within the medical device industry, including significant leadership experience.
- Strong background in complex device development and manufacturing environments.
- Experience leading international projects and globally distributed teams.
- Proven ability to translate strategy into execution and deliver measurable outcomes.
- Strong communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
- Knowledge of ISO 13485 and medical device quality systems.
