About Big Red Cloud

Big Red Cloud Group is a small, mature company investing in innovation and customer service. We support thousands of small and medium businesses in Ireland and Britain who love our mission critical software and services for bookkeeping, payroll administration, and operations management.

As the business grows organically and through acquisitions, and as our finance operation is rebuilt on modern, automated infrastructure, we need an ambitious, hands-on finance professional to keep the numbers accurate, the reporting sharp, and the day-to-day running of the function under control. This is a sleeves-up role — you'll be doing the work yourself, not overseeing a team that does it. That's where you come in.

The Role

The Financial Controller has end-to-end accountability for the Group's financial operations, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer. The role is responsible for financial close, management and board reporting, budgeting, forecasting, FP&A, SaaS metrics integrity, accounts payable and receivable, treasury, statutory compliance, and internal controls across The Big Red Book Company Limited and Big Red Cloud Limited.

In addition, the Financial Controller will support the CFO in the Finance Transformation Programme currently underway — assisting with the implementation of a new subscription billing platform, a new accounting system, automated integrations, and the adoption of AI-enabled tools and workflows.

The postholder operates with a high degree of autonomy within the framework established by the Chief Financial Officer and the Group's Delegation of Approval Policy, and is expected to exercise sound commercial and professional judgement.

What you'll do

· Close & reporting: Personally run a fast, accurate month-end (we aim for a 5-day close) and produce the monthly and quarterly board packs the business relies on.

· Planning & analysis: Run the annual budget and rolling forecasts, and build

· SaaS metrics: Own our SaaS KPIs — ARR, MRR, NRR, churn and CAC — and keep revenue recognition clean and compliant (IFRS 15 / FRS 102).

· Transformation & AI: Support the CFO in bringing in our new billing and accounting systems, and help adopt AI and automation across the finance function.

· Controls & compliance: Run the annual statutory audit, keep our controls and Irish tax obligations (CT, VAT, PAYE/PRSI) watertight, and act as a trusted finance approver.

· Treasury & structure: Manage cash and FX across the Group, and support work to simplify our corporate structure.

· Hands-on operations: Post purchase invoices yourself, carry out regular debtor reviews and collections, and keep the ledgers and accounting records clean and accurate — owning the day-to-day directly.

What we're looking for

Professional qualification:

Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent); full membership required. Verified via certificate at offer stage.

Post-qualified experience:

Minimum 3 years' post-qualified experience. SaaS or subscription-business experience preferred.

SaaS & subscription finance:

Sound understanding of ARR, MRR, NRR, GRR, logo churn and their operational drivers. Able to construct and explain an ARR bridge.

Revenue recognition:

Working knowledge of IFRS 15 / FRS 102. Experience with automated RevRec systems (Salesforce RevRec, NetSuite ARM or equivalent) desirable.

Systems & technology:

Strong command of ERP/accounting systems. Salesforce Revenue Cloud experience highly advantageous. Advanced Excel. Power BI or equivalent BI tools.

Systems implementation:

Track record of participating in or leading finance systems implementations (ERP, billing, CRM-finance integration). Can demonstrate project delivery.

AI in finance:

Demonstrable experience using AI tools to improve finance workflows (e.g. intelligent reconciliation, FP&A automation, document AI, AI-assisted commentary). Proactive about identifying and evaluating new AI capabilities.

FP&A:

Able to build multi-year financial models, rolling forecasts, and board-level variance narratives. Can present a model and defend assumptions.

Controls & governance:

Familiarity with DoA frameworks, internal controls design and audit-readiness. Can describe controls they have designed or improved.

Communication:

Excellent written and verbal skills. Can translate complex financials into clear insight for the CEO, Board and non-finance stakeholders.

Leadership & initiative:

Comfortable operating autonomously. Track record of building process and control where little previously existed; does not wait to be directed.

Why you'll love it here

· Fully remote, with a 4-day week (30 hours) and flexible hours

· A real seat at the table on a finance transformation — AI included

· An established business with room to grow and make a visible impact

· Training & Development Budget

Our hiring process

We take hiring seriously — and respectfully. Our goal is to assess skills fairly, give you clarity at every stage, and make sure great candidates don't slip through the net. Here's how it works:

1. Cognitive Aptitude Test (CAT) — A short online assessment of structured thinking and problem-solving. It helps us spot strong potential from the outset, whatever your background.

2. Interview — A structured, two-way conversation with the Finance team and the wider business — we want to learn about you, and we'll make sure you leave knowing what we stand for.

3. Functional task — A short, practical, supervised task that reflects the real work of the role, so we can see how you approach everyday scenarios.

4. Scored review & feedback — Every task is reviewed and scored against a standard rubric, and we give feedback to every candidate — whether or not they progress.

We aim to complete the full process within 2–3 weeks, and we'll keep you updated at every step.
