Full job description

Own and grow The Smooth Company's retail and B2B business across our existing retail partners in Ireland and international markets. The Head of Retail is commercially accountable for increasing revenue, sell-through and distribution within those partnerships, while ensuring every retailer and store has the stock, training, visibility and support needed to succeed.

Please note there is a performance-related bonus on top of the base salary for this role.

Retail Revenue & Commercial Growth

  • Own retail and B2B revenue targets, forecasts and growth plans by retailer, market and store.
  • Build clear account plans showing how each key retailer will grow through sell-through, new doors, range extensions, launches, promotions, education and activations.
  • Identify underperforming accounts or stores early and implement recovery plans rather than waiting for sales to decline.
  • Maximise growth within existing retail partnerships through additional doors, range extensions, stronger sell-through, launches, education, visibility and activations.

Retailer & Buyer Relationships

  • Own day-to-day commercial relationships with buyers and key retail partners, becoming their main point of contact for growth and performance.
  • Lead regular business reviews covering sales, stock, launches, marketing opportunities, range expansion and next actions.
  • Maintain close relationships with store and area managers so issues and opportunities are identified at store level, not only through head office.
  • Negotiate commercial opportunities in line with agreed company parameters and escalate major strategic decisions to the CEO.

Sell-Through, Stock & Store Execution

  • Monitor sales and sell-through by retailer, store and SKU and take action to improve performance.
  • Ensure products are correctly ranged, in stock, visible and merchandised to agreed standards, resolving gaps quickly with retailers and internal teams.
  • Maintain a structured store-visit programme across priority accounts, spending significant time on the road to monitor sales, stock, merchandising, training and customer experience and following through on actions identified.
  • Work with Operations on forecasts and stock requirements so retail growth is supported without unnecessary overstock.

Training & B2B Education

  • Own the retail training plan and ensure priority store, salon and B2B teams are trained regularly and can confidently recommend and sell the products.
  • Work with the Brand Manager, who owns brand/product training content and materials; Head of Retail owns scheduling, retailer engagement, completion and commercial follow-through.
  • Track training coverage and identify stores or accounts that need additional education or support.

Retail Brand Experience

  • Work closely with the Brand Manager, who sets the visual merchandising, POS and brand standards. Own implementation and ongoing maintenance of those standards across the retail network.
  • Ensure agreed brand standards and updates are consistently implemented and maintained in stores and across retailer websites, following through with retailer teams until issues are resolved.
  • Flag opportunities for improved space, displays, activations and visibility that can increase sales.

Pop-Ups, Activations & Field Sales

  • Own the commercial performance of pop-up shops and retail activations, including sales targets, staffing plans, rotas, daily reporting and performance management.
  • Recruit, train and manage temporary Beauty Advisors and ensure teams are motivated, knowledgeable and focused on sales.
  • Review performance throughout each activation and make changes quickly where targets are not being achieved.

Travel & Field Presence

  • This is a highly field-based role requiring significant travel to stores and retail partners across Ireland, alongside regular international travel to key markets.
  • Spend meaningful time with buyers, store managers and retail teams on the shop floor, using first-hand insight to identify opportunities and resolve issues quickly.

Reporting & Accountability

  • Run a weekly retail scorecard covering sales vs target and last year, forecast, sell-through, stock, store execution, training, opportunities and key actions.
  • Provide the CEO with a clear monthly view of retail performance, risks, opportunities and expected full-year revenue.
  • Every important retail action should have a clear owner and deadline, with follow-through until completion.
  • Maintain accurate retail forecasts by account and market, clearly identifying expected revenue, risks, gaps to target and opportunities to recover or outperform.
  • The CEO owns decisions on new retailer acquisition and where the brand is stocked. The Head of Retail focuses on maximising the performance and expansion of approved retail partnerships; the business manages retail relationships in-house and does not pursue distributor-led growth.

What Success Looks Like

  • Retail and B2B revenue consistently grows against agreed targets and becomes a major contributor to company growth.
  • Existing retailers grow through stronger sell-through, more doors, wider ranges, better visibility and successful launches.
  • Underperforming stores and accounts are identified early and actively improved.
  • Retail and salon teams are trained, confident in the products and equipped to sell The Smooth Company effectively.
  • Products are consistently in stock, correctly ranged and presented to a premium standard across priority retailers.
  • Pop-ups and activations are well staffed, well managed and deliver against sales targets.
  • Existing retail partnerships deliver a strong pipeline of incremental revenue through additional doors, range extensions and improved account performance.
  • The CEO has clear visibility of retail performance and can focus on major strategic relationships rather than day-to-day retail management.
  • Priority stores are visited regularly, brand standards are maintained, and store-level issues and opportunities are identified and acted on quickly.

Additional Benefits:

  • Performance-related bonus
  • Generous Smooth Company product allocation
  • Staff discount
  • Genuine career progression and opportunity to grow within the company
  • Opportunity to play a key role in the international growth of a fast-growing Irish beauty brand
  • Travel opportunities across our retail markets
  • Company events and team activities
  • Working closely with the Founder/CEO and senior leadership team, with real ownership and autonomy over the retail function

Pay: €55,000.00-€85,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Company events
  • Company pension
  • Employee assistance program
  • Employee discount
  • Free or subsidised travel
  • On-site parking
  • Work from home

Work Location: On the road
