Full job description

We are looking for an experienced Café Manager to lead the team in Lisboa Pastelaria.

Our unique café takes the flavours and experiences from Lisbon and serves them to our loyal customers in the heart of Dublin city centre. We thought that these delicacies on offer in the city deserve to be enjoyed outside of the capital, so we have brought them home to Dublin for you to enjoy. The city of Lisbon has inspired every step of our journey from the food to the decor. The history of the city is also entwined with its tasty offerings, like Pastéis de Belém.

We have re-created the staple and unique sandwiches on offer in Portugal's capital. Fan favourites include the Francesinha, hailing originally from Porto, dubbed “the hangover cure of the century” the meat-feast layers ham, sausage, chorizo and steak, covered entirely with melted cheese and topped with a secret tomato and beery sauce. Of course- we have the famous pastéis de natas- crispy puff pastry enclosing a gooey vanilla custardy bite with original, chocolate, raspberry, blueberry and coffee flavours with vegan options available too.

We have created a unique roasted blend of coffee for our customers. A medium roasted blend of Heirloom variety Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Coffee and Brazil Fazenda Coffee. Medium bodied with an explosively aromatic citrus and floral note with a sublime cocoa and caramel finish. Excellent balance with a body that marries perfectly with milk.

Finally, as the day turns to evening we put away our famous coffee and inspired by Portugese taberna’s we offer a carefully curated selection of Portuguese wines masterfully paired with a hearty range of traditional cuisine.

As Cafe Manager your responsibilities will include scheduling staff for all shifts, monitoring daily expenses and revenues and ordering all supplies as needed. Ensuring customers have an experience which not just excites but turns them into fans.

To be successful in this role you should have work experience with various roles in coffee shops with a strong knowledge of European wines. Also, you should be available to work during opening hours, including weekends and holidays; we open from 8:00am to 22:00 and you will typically work 45 hours over a five day week.

Ultimately, you will help increase profitability, boost customer engagement and turn our Lisboa Pastelaria into a favourite local spot.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the café & wine bar
  • Hire and onboard new staff
  • Train employees on food and drinks preparation and proper use of relevant equipment
  • Coordinate with suppliers and order supplies to ensure the café is adequately stocked at all times
  • Maintain updated records of daily, weekly and monthly revenues and expenses
  • Ensure H&S standards are maintained to a high level and all necessary HACCP standards are in place
  • Have a ‘maintain like new’ mentality to the upkeep of the premises and equipment
  • Train staff on the best ways to resolve issues with customers and deliver excellent customer service at all times
  • Nurture friendly relationships with customers to increase loyalty and boost our reputation
  • Cost control – insightful knowledge of what is going on in the business and maintain effective cost controls to maximise profit

Requirements and skills

  • 2 year experience as a Cafe Manager
  • Hands-on experience with professional coffee machines
  • Availability to work within opening hours (including weekends and holidays)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • Communication with the owners regarding the progress of the business
  • Customer service attitude
  • Strong knowledge of Portuguese food and wine
  • Managing online delivery sales to ensure a high standard of product arrives for the customer
  • Regular monitoring of online reviews and proactive approach to any constructive feedback
  • IT literate and experience onboard company systems for ordering, staff scheduling, etc.
  • Understanding of Profit & Loss
