HEAD BARISTA – SPECIALTY COFFEE

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Head Barista to lead and manage our barista team.

We are a specialty coffee café with a strong focus on quality, consistency and genuine customer service. We’re looking for someone who can lead by example, maintain high standards behind the bar and help the whole team deliver an excellent experience every day.

The ideal person will have a genuine passion for specialty coffee, strong knowledge of espresso and pour-over brewing, and the confidence to manage, train and motivate a team in a busy café environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, manage and motivate the barista team during daily service.
  • Maintain consistently high standards of coffee and customer service across the team.
  • Organise workflow and ensure the coffee bar runs smoothly during busy periods.
  • Dial in espresso daily and make adjustments throughout the day to maintain quality and consistency.
  • Maintain excellent standards in espresso extraction, milk texturing, latte art and drink presentation.
  • Prepare and oversee pour-over and filter coffee, ensuring recipes and brewing standards are followed consistently.
  • Train and support baristas in espresso, milk, pour-over techniques and general coffee knowledge.
  • Monitor performance and provide ongoing coaching and constructive feedback.
  • Ensure every member of the team provides friendly, knowledgeable and attentive customer service.
  • Be confident talking to customers about the coffees we serve, including origin, processing, flavour profiles and brewing methods.
  • Help manage coffee and bar stock, ordering and inventory.
  • Maintain an exceptionally clean, organised and professional coffee bar.
  • Ensure opening, closing and daily bar procedures are followed correctly.
  • Maintain high standards even during busy and demanding service periods.
  • Work closely with management to continuously improve team performance, service and coffee quality.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience as a barista, preferably in a specialty coffee environment.
  • Strong specialty coffee knowledge and genuine interest in coffee.
  • Previous experience leading, supervising or training a barista team is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of espresso extraction, dialing in and grinders.
  • Good knowledge and practical experience with pour-over/manual brewing methods.
  • Excellent milk texturing and latte art skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and consistency.
  • High customer service standards and a naturally welcoming approach to hospitality.
  • Confidence in training, coaching and giving feedback to team members.
  • Strong communication, leadership and organisational skills.
  • Ability to stay calm and maintain standards during busy service.
  • Reliable, proactive and comfortable taking responsibility.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and peak hours.
