About the Role

Our client is a leading construction and environmental services company committed to delivering innovative water and wastewater solutions. They focus on sustainability, carbon reduction, and advancing the circular economy through cutting-edge engineering and operational excellence.

They are seeking a Senior Process Design Engineer to join their team. This role is pivotal in driving the design and optimisation of water and wastewater treatment systems. Reporting directly to the Design and Operations Managers, you will lead the development of advanced process designs for new projects, carry out process reviews for upgrade works, oversee technical execution, and ensure operational excellence across multiple treatment facilities.

The successful candidate will combine technical expertise with strategic thinking to deliver innovative, efficient and sustainable solutions. You will collaborate closely with senior leadership to enhance design methodologies, improve plant performance, and contribute to the company's growth strategy.

Design Leadership

  • Lead the design and development of water and wastewater treatment processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and best practices
  • Apply advanced process engineering principles to create innovative, cost-effective and sustainable solutions

Project Management

  • Manage a portfolio of design projects from concept through execution, ensuring timely delivery and quality outcomes
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate process designs into overall project plans

Technical Excellence

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex design challenges, drawing on strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Optimise plant operations through process improvements and performance monitoring

Risk & Compliance

  • Identify and mitigate technical risks, ensuring safety and environmental compliance

Strategic Contribution

  • Support senior management in shaping design strategies and driving continuous improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to innovation and research efforts to maintain industry leadership

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Minimum 5+ years' post-qualification experience in process design within the water/wastewater sector
  • Proven track record in design leadership, project management and operational optimisation
  • Strong understanding of water/wastewater treatment technologies and regulatory frameworks
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Proficiency in relevant design software and strong IT capabilities
  • Highly organised, self-motivated and capable of working in a fast-paced environment
