The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key member of the executive leadership team responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the organisation. The COO partners closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and senior leaders to execute the company's strategic vision, drive operational excellence, improve organizational performance, and ensure the delivery of high-quality healthcare services.


This role requires a strategic, results-oriented leader with deep operational expertise, strong financial acumen, and a commitment to delivering exceptional patient outcomes while maintaining regulatory compliance and organizational growth.


Key Responsibilities


Strategic Leadership

Partner with the CEO and executive team to develop and execute the organization's strategic plan.

Translate strategic objectives into operational initiatives with measurable outcomes.

Lead organizational transformation, growth initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.

Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and excellence.


Operational Management

Oversee the daily operations of clinical and non-clinical functions.

Ensure operational efficiency while maintaining high standards of patient care and service delivery.

Develop and monitor operational performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).

Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs, and enhance quality.


Financial Performance

Collaborate with the CFO to develop operational budgets and resource plans.

Drive operational performance to achieve financial goals.

Monitor productivity, cost management, and operational efficiency.

Support sustainable growth while maintaining fiscal responsibility.


Clinical Operations

Partner with clinical leadership to ensure safe, effective, patient-centered care.

Support quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs.

Ensure operational alignment with clinical priorities.

Promote evidence-based practices and continuous quality improvement.


Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure compliance with applicable healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.

Oversee operational risk management and business continuity planning.

Maintain readiness for audits, inspections, and accreditation reviews.

Promote a culture of compliance and ethical leadership.


People Leadership

Lead, mentor, and develop senior operational leaders.

Build high-performing, collaborative teams across the organization.

Support succession planning and leadership development.

Foster employee engagement and a positive organizational culture.


Stakeholder Management

Build strong relationships with physicians, clinicians, employees, board members, and external partners.

Collaborate across departments to ensure alignment and effective decision-making.

Represent the organization with healthcare partners, regulators, and community stakeholders as appropriate.


Qualifications Required

Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, Public Health, or a related field.

Master's degree (MBA, MHA, MPH, or equivalent) preferred.

10+ years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare operations.

Experience in multi-site healthcare organizations.

Familiarity with value-based care models.

Experience with digital health initiatives and healthcare technology implementation.

Lean, Six Sigma, or other operational excellence certifications are advantageous.

This executive leadership role requires regular collaboration across clinical and administrative departments and may involve travel between facilities. The COO is expected to maintain a visible leadership presence throughout the organization and participate in executive, board, and strategic planning meetings.
