Full job description
Optum is a global organization that delivers care, aided by technology to help millions of people live healthier lives. The work you do with our team will directly improve health outcomes by connecting people with the care, pharmacy benefits, data and resources they need to feel their best. Here, you will find a culture guided by diversity and inclusion, talented peers, comprehensive benefits and career development opportunities. Come make an impact on the communities we serve as you help us advance health equity on a global scale. Join us to start Caring. Connecting. Growing together.
At UnitedHealth Group and Optum, we want to make healthcare work better for everyone. This depends on hiring the best and brightest. With a thriving ecosystem of investment and innovation, our business in Ireland is constantly growing to support the healthcare needs of the future.
Our teams are at the forefront of building and adapting the latest technologies to propel healthcare forward in a way that better serves everyone. With our hands at work across all aspects of health, we use the most advanced development tools, AI, data science and innovative approaches to make the healthcare system work better for everyone.
The EHR System Specialist for Ancillary Clinical Applications is responsible for the support, configuration, and optimization of ancillary systems integrated with the core EHR platform, as well as standalone clinical applications used across the healthcare enterprise. This role ensures system reliability and performance by providing end-user support, troubleshooting and resolving system issues, and proactively enhancing application functionality and workflows. The position focuses on delivering efficient, high-quality solutions that meet operational needs while driving continuous improvement in system usability and client satisfaction.
We are interested in individuals with solid technical and/or application support experience, preferably with exposure to healthcare systems such as Radiology Information Systems (RIS), Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), Pharmacy systems or other ancillary platforms. While a clinical background (e.g., laboratory, radiology, and pharmacy technicians, or nursing) are not required, it is considered a valuable asset. Solid candidates will be able to demonstrate self-motivation and team collaboration. Given the cross-disciplinary nature of this position, solid communication and problem-solving skills are critical. Our team is committed to cultivating a culture of diversity and inclusion that empowers both our company and our clients - and as our new EHR System Specialist (Ancillary Clinical Applications), you will be an integral part of advancing this mission.
Please note: There will be job-related training where there may be an expectation to work adjusted hours, depending on trainer location/availability. Following this, local hours would be standard with a need for some flexibility when working with US clients.
Careers with Optum offer flexible work arrangements, and this role operates in a hybrid model, with 3 days based in our Letterkenny office and 2 days remote working from home.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day support, maintenance, and optimization of clinical applications to ensure system reliability and performance
- Partner with clinical and operational stakeholders to translate workflow needs into system solutions and enhancements
- Perform daily maintenance tasks such as triaging incoming requests/incident tickets, user provisioning, and managing error queues
- Troubleshoot application issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement effective resolutions
- Design, configure, and enhance application workflows to support clinical operations
- Maintain system performance, stability, and configuration in alignment with Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
- Develop and maintain key documentation, including workflows, testing, and configuration process and procedures
- Ensure end-to-end integrity of clinical systems through collaboration with technical and clinical teams
- Support application upgrades, patches, integrations, and change deployments
- Operate within ITSM processes (incident, problem, and change management)
- Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to resolve complex technical issues
- Manage responsibilities independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
You will be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role, as well as providing development for other roles you may be interested in.
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated foundational knowledge of information systems, including technical processes, procedures, application software, and hardware support, with demonstrated solid understanding of clinical systems and their role in hospital operations
- Demonstrated ability to triage and resolve incidents, manage escalations with vendors, and maintain system performance and stability
- Demonstrated working knowledge of system lifecycle activities, including upgrades, patches, and post deployment stabilization
- Demonstrated familiarity with IT Service Management (ITSM) frameworks, including incident, problem, and change management processes
- Demonstrated solid communication and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clinicians, operational leadership, IT teams, and external vendors
- Demonstrated understanding of incident management, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis
- Demonstrated ability to support on call rotation and occasional after hours work to address critical issues, upgrades, and system maintenance
Preferred Qualifications:
We value a diverse range of skills and experiences. While any of the following qualifications are desirable, they are not mandatory for this role. Candidates from varied backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
- Undergraduate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Health Informatics, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated understanding of system integrations, interfaces, and HL7 messaging standards
- Demonstrated knowledge of ITSM platforms such as ServiceNow, Salesforce, or similar tools
- Proven experience providing enterprise level technical and application support in complex environments
Please note you must currently be eligible to work and remain indefinitely without any restrictions in the country to which you are making an application. Proof will be required to support your application.
At UnitedHealth Group, our mission is to help people live healthier lives and make the health system work better for everyone. We believe everyone-of every race, gender, sexuality, age, location and income-deserves the opportunity to live their healthiest life. Today, however, there are still far too many barriers to good health which are disproportionately experienced by people of color, historically marginalized groups and those with lower incomes. We are committed to mitigating our impact on the environment and enabling and delivering equitable care that addresses health disparities and improves health outcomes - an enterprise priority reflected in our mission.
