Full job description
Management Accountant required for Mayo based company with 3–6+ years’ experience in a management accounting or similar finance role.
Responsibilities
Management Accounts & Reporting
- Preparation of monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet, cashflow)
- Variance analysis vs budgets and forecasts with clear commentary
- Production of departmental and project-level financial reports
- Support month-end close process including journals, accruals, and prepayments Support cashflow forecasting, working capital visibility and reporting on key financial movements
Project & Cost Control
- Monitor job-level profitability and cost performance
- Liaise with QS and project teams on cost tracking, revenue recognition, work-in-progress (WIP) and accruals
- Identify and investigate cost overruns or margin erosion
- Monitor billing milestones, WIP, project margins and cost risks to support timely commercial decision-making
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist in preparation of annual budgets and rolling forecasts
- Track performance against budgets and provide insights to management
- Support scenario analysis for project and business decisions
- Commercial & Operational Support
- Work closely with Quantity Surveyors, Commercial Managers, and Operations Teams
- Provide financial insight on project performance, tender reviews, and cost-saving opportunities
- Act as a finance business partner to operational and commercial teams, providing practical financial guidance and challenge where appropriate
- Support managers in interpreting project costs, margins, budgets, forecasts and financial risks
Financial Control & Compliance
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data
- Maintain strong controls over revenue recognition, cost allocation, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Assist with audit queries and statutory accounts preparation
- Support project cost controls, approval processes, financial procedures and compliance with company policies
Process Improvement & Systems
- Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting processes and data quality
- Contribute to development of dashboards and KPI reporting (e.g., Power BI)
- Work confidently with accounting/ERP systems, project costing tools and large datasets
- Support automation, improved reporting controls and more efficient finance processes
Requirements:
- Fully qualified accountant (ACCA / ACA / CIMA /CPA) or nearing qualification, or relevant experience.
- Candidates who are part-qualified with strong project accounting, management accounting or contracting experience may also be considered.
- 3–6+ years’ experience in a management accounting or similar finance role
- Experience preparing management accounts, variance analysis and financial commentary
- Strong exposure to job costing, project accounting or cost control
- Strong Excel and reporting skills, with the ability to work confidently with financial data
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
- High attention to detail, strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines
