Lead Major Power and Utility Infrastructure Projects

Linkedskills is recruiting an experienced Project Manager – Power & ESB Utilities on behalf of an established civil engineering contractor delivering major infrastructure and utility projects across Dublin.

This is a senior project delivery role requiring strong experience in Ireland within the power, electrical utilities, or ESB infrastructure sector.

The successful candidate will take full responsibility for project planning, programme delivery, commercial performance, client communication, local authority coordination, crew management, health and safety, quality and internal reporting.

The Role

The Project Manager will oversee the successful delivery of power and utility infrastructure projects from planning through to completion.

You will manage multiple crews and site teams while coordinating with clients, ESB Networks, local authorities, consultants, subcontractors and internal departments.

The position requires a commercially aware and technically capable Project Manager who can control programme, cost, quality and risk while maintaining strong client relationships.

Key Responsibilities: Project Planning and Delivery

• Review project drawings, specifications, contracts and scope requirements.
• Prepare detailed baseline programmes using Microsoft Project.
• Develop short-term and long-term delivery plans.
• Monitor project performance against programme, budget and key milestones.
• Identify critical-path delays and implement recovery measures.
• Prepare and issue regular programme updates to clients and senior management.
• Coordinate labour, plant, materials, subcontractors and project resources.
• Manage multiple crews operating across active Dublin sites.
• Ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and to the required technical standards.
• Maintain control of project delivery from mobilisation through to handover.

Client and Stakeholder Management

• Act as the main point of contact for clients and project stakeholders.
• Maintain strong working relationships with ESB Networks, utility providers and local authorities.
• Attend and lead progress, coordination and commercial meetings.
• Provide clear updates on programme, cost, risk, quality and site performance.
• Manage client expectations and resolve project issues professionally.
• Coordinate road-opening requirements, permits, traffic management and local authority approvals.
• Liaise with consultants, designers, subcontractors and internal teams.
• Present practical solutions to technical, operational and commercial challenges.

Programme and Reporting

• Prepare and maintain accurate project programmes.
• Track progress and identify delays, risks and resource constraints.
• Produce regular internal and client-facing progress reports.
• Maintain accurate records across company reporting systems.
• Ensure project documentation is complete, current and properly controlled.
• Prepare reports on labour, plant, materials, productivity and project performance.
• Monitor crew outputs and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
• Ensure senior management receives accurate and timely project information.

Commercial Management

• Review project pricing, budgets and commercial targets.
• Monitor internal costs and project expenditure.
• Identify areas of financial underperformance and implement corrective actions.
• Understand the agreed contract scope and identify variations.
• Maintain records to support variation submissions and commercial claims.
• Negotiate additional costs and project changes with clients where appropriate.
• Review and approve monthly progress claims.
• Work closely with the Quantity Surveyor and commercial team.
• Ensure contractual notices are issued within required timeframes.
• Support the preparation and negotiation of extensions of time.
• Protect project profitability and commercial position throughout delivery.

Team and Crew Management

• Lead Site Agents, Engineers, Supervisors, Quantity Surveyors and field crews.
• Allocate responsibilities and ensure teams understand project priorities.
• Coordinate multiple crews across several work locations.
• Monitor productivity, performance and workmanship.
• Provide practical support and direction to site teams.
• Resolve operational issues quickly and effectively.
• Promote accountability, communication and teamwork.
• Ensure site teams maintain accurate daily records and reporting.
• Support the development of junior managers and engineers.

Health, Safety and Quality

• Take ownership of health, safety and quality performance across all assigned projects.
• Review and approve Risk Assessment Method Statements and pre-construction documentation.
• Ensure all site activities comply with approved RAMS and safe systems of work.
• Carry out regular health and safety, environmental and quality audits.
• Ensure corrective actions are implemented without delay.
• Maintain compliance with ESB, client, statutory and industry requirements.
• Promote a strong safety culture across all project teams.
• Ensure electrical and civil works meet the required quality standards.
• Coordinate inspections, testing, snagging and project handover.

Candidate Requirements

• Minimum Level 8 qualification in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
• Proven experience working as a Project Manager within the Irish power, ESB, utilities or infrastructure sector.
• Direct experience delivering projects involving ESB Networks or associated power infrastructure.
• Strong Irish construction and utilities experience.
• Experience managing clients, local authorities and utility stakeholders.
• Proven ability to manage multiple crews and active project locations.
• Strong knowledge of project programming, cost control and commercial management.
• Experience managing variations, claims, delays and contractual notices.
• Strong understanding of health and safety requirements within utilities and road-corridor environments.
• Ability to manage internal reporting systems and project documentation.
• Strong leadership, communication and negotiation skills.
• Commercially aware with the confidence to challenge costs, resources and performance.
• Proficient in Microsoft Project, Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Full clean driving licence.
• Currently residing within commuting distance of Dublin.
• Full eligibility to work in Ireland.

• ESB Networks projects.
• Power distribution infrastructure.
• Underground and overhead utility works.
• Substation or electrical infrastructure projects.
• Ducting, chambers and cable routes.
• Road openings and reinstatement.
• Traffic management and road-corridor works.
• Local authority permits and coordination.
• Managing multiple crews across several locations.
• Public utility frameworks.
• Civil works associated with electrical installations.

Salary and Package

• Salary of €70,000–€100,000, depending on experience.
