Full job description
Trinity is Ireland’s leading university and is ranked 75th in the world (QS World University Rankings 2026). Founded in 1592, the University is steeped in history with a reputation for excellence in education, research, and innovation, which has been inspiring generations of thinkers for over 400 years. Trinity College Dublin- an introduction.
Post Summary:
The Ryan Lab investigates how pathogenic mitochondrial DNA mutations influence innate immune function, inflammatory responses, and susceptibility to infection. This role will initially focus on ex vivo macrophage biology, using primary mouse macrophages derived from mitochondrial disease models to understand how distinct mtDNA mutations alter innate immune signalling, inflammatory cytokine production, cellular metabolism, and responses to immune or infectious stimuli.
The postholder will contribute to a programme of work integrating macrophage wet-lab experiments with mouse models of mitochondrial disease, downstream immunology, metabolism, and molecular biology workflows. The role is intended to provide broad practical and intellectual training in mitochondrial immunometabolism and would be particularly suited to a motivated candidate seeking further research experience before undertaking a PhD.
Application Procedure:
Applicants should submit a full Curriculum Vitae plus a short cover letter outline the candidate’s relevant laboratory experience, interest in the research area, and motivation for applying for the role and include the names and contact details of 2 referees (including email addresses), to:-
Dr. Dylan Ryan
