A Day in the Life
The Engineering Intern will support the Released Product Engineering team by assisting with laboratory operations, test method validation activities, and engineering testing. This role will contribute to the establishment of a new engineering laboratory by supporting efforts to develop compliant laboratory processes, organize equipment, maintain documentation, and implement best practices aligned with quality system requirements. The intern will work alongside engineers and technicians to execute test protocols, collect and analyze data, prepare test samples, and gain hands-on experience in medical device engineering within a regulated environment.A Day in Life Of:
- You will support the development and implementation of laboratory capabilities within the Galway engineering organization, including equipment setup, process development, and laboratory readiness activities
- You will support Released Product Engineering activities by executing engineering tests, analyzing results, and providing technical input to support product decisions
- You will assist in the development, optimization, and validation of test methods used to evaluate medical device performance and product requirements
- You will prepare and execute test protocols, collect and analyze data, and generate technical reports in accordance with Medtronic quality and regulatory requirements
- You will collaborate with engineers, technicians, quality teams, and manufacturing partners to support investigations, troubleshooting activities, and continuous improvement initiatives
- You will identify opportunities to improve testing processes, laboratory capabilities, and engineering workflows through innovative problem-solving approaches
- You will apply engineering principles and analytical methods to investigate technical challenges and support data-driven decision making
- You will take ownership of assigned projects, manage priorities and deliver results while working in an environment where requirements and priorities may evolve
- You will actively participate as a member of a multidisciplinary engineering team, contributing ideas and supporting team objectives
- You will maintain accurate technical documentation, ensuring all testing and validation activities are appropriately recorded and compliant with applicable procedures
- You will demonstrate initiative, curiosity, and accountability while developing engineering solutions that support product quality and patient outcomes
Key Skills & Experience
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in biomedical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- Strong interest in medical device engineering, product testing, validation, and laboratory development
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage tasks effectively in a dynamic and changing environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret technical data and communicate findings clearly
- Ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams and contribute positively to team goals
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to develop clear and accurate technical documentation
- Experience with engineering testing, data analysis, laboratory equipment, CAD, programming, or statistical analysis tools is an asset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
